Very moving poem of five lines - and how many times are those words said? How many times during the timeline of mankind on earth? For some reason, war is still seen as the solution. It can never bring peace. Best wishes for this timeless and very relevant poem in the contest.

Thanks, Wendy.
I pray that wars throughout the world will cease,
And we can live our lives on Earth in peace.

What a wonderful rhyming poem that expresses the heartfelt agony of a soldier going off to war. The artwork is lovely depicting a time long ago, but representing lovers for all time. War is too often entered into for the rich and powerful but embarked upon by the poor and powerless. War is sometimes necessary, especially in case of a defense. Thanks for sharing, best of luck in the contest.

Thanks, Doc. I wonder what would happen if the rich and powerful had to do the fighting.

You are most welcome my friend.
I believe, there would be no more war!

Hi, Paul
This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with that!!
They call the men and women of that era the greatest generation. I believe that it may be true. I think what's happened since then is the issue. Back then there were cloth diapers. So, things weren't clogging up the landfill. And they even had services which would come get the dirty diapers and clean them and deliver them back.
The thing I haven't figured out how the diaper can be when you give it to them because you still have to clean out the diaper in case number two in order to hand it to them to be washed. Maybe they took all kinds of dirty diapers. I don't know.
The greatest generation in World War II, it also made flying a normal occasion
They built a lot of skyscrapers and bridges. I don't think the suicide rate was this high for them as it was for Vietnam veterans who came home to jeers. World War II veterans on the other hand were hailed as heroes
I guess they have to be the greatest generation just because they endure everything that went on. I could not imagine living in those times I would be so scared every day. My stomach would get an ulcer. So, I guess I'm not material to be part of the greatest generation
Like you said, she needs to worry about him and pray at night. And someways, the soldier had an advantage over the ones left behind. He was always prepared for battle, and there was so much going on that he didn't have time to think if he was in danger or not.
I enjoyed reading your poem
Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Pam. I think there was a tremendous amount of PTSD that went untreated when the greatest generation returned from war.

A touching a heartfelt 5 line poem. You have packed a powerful message in this short verse. As battles rage around the world, we sometimes forget the individuals and their loved ones as these scenes are re-enacted.
My one grandson is a police office and I feel like he goes into battle every time he goes out the door. Today, we don't know what will happen or if he will be coming home.
Excellent poem Paul.
Blessings

Thanks, Roy. Sometimes I think the worry and anxiety at home is equal to that on the battlefield.
