Cabin in the Cove

by BethShelby

I walked through Cades Cove, or actually drove
by scenes of bygone delight.
The cabins were old, but there to behold;
a rare historical sight
The settlers, we’re told, were men who were bold,
and not afraid of the toil.
Conditions were rough, but these men were tough,
creating life from the soil.

Below a steep dome, these folks found a home,
in the hills of Tennessee.
In wagons they came and laid down a claim
on land they hoped would be free.
Neighbors befriended, soon became blended
into a community.
The churches they’d build, would quickly be filled
with spirits of harmony.

The mountains remain a spot where we gain
a feeling of perfect peace.
If you should decide to take a joy ride,
it’s here your troubles may cease.
So take my advice, you’ll find something nice,
if you should need to relax.
There’s beauty in store and much to explore,
but wear some comfortable slacks.
