Mildred had worked in the museum’s taxidermy department for many years of dedicated service. With advancing age and declining health, she decided to retire.
Grateful for Mildred’s contribution, at a farewell function the Director jokingly said to her: “As a mark of respect, when you die we’re going to have you stuffed and mounted, then displayed in our collection.”
Mildred replied: “Some days I feel quite stuffed already, and I haven’t been mounted for decades!”
