Interests
poetry, literature, and my dog
I grew up in an unstable and violent household. But credit where it's due, my father taught me to read before I went to school. I found that reading, and later writing, provided me with a world in which to hide. I have a particular fondness for George Orwell, John.B. Keane, Russell Hoban , and P.G. Wodehouse. I love the journalism of Fergal Keane, and his complete political polar opposite, P.J. O'Rourke.
Poetically, for me, no one comes close to the empathetic purity of Raymond Carver. The English War Poets, particularly Edward Thomas, move me greatly. Sassoon's "At the Cenotaph " exposes the hypocrisy and wickedness of war.
I suffered a series of work related nervous breakdowns three years ago, which led to a family estrangement. My wife is a fellow writer, and encouraged me to join Fanstory. I probably wouldn't be alive without her.
