I agree, we don't know what we don't know, but we need to discover what we don't know. Some don't seek truth because they are at ease with what they already know, or don't know. Some don't seek truth because it challenges what they hold precious. Some don't seek truth because the darkness of ignorance is... comfortable. "If I don't know, then how can I be accountable?" they would ask. Like yourself, it is our responsibily to seek out knowledge and truth and thus we grow and change.
