jetset8: One of my writing instructors from long ago once said, "Never create a character who is smarter than you." Because she was an accomplished writer I took her word for it. As a result, my writing always seemed flat. One day I realized it was bad advice because that approach limited my creativity and inhibited my imagination. I am now writing a novel in which the main character is an English professor with a PhD (definitely smarter than me). Would love some feedback. |
