Can any one help me? I don't quite understand the new format.

Nor84, Catalina has changed! No cattle! Cars are now allowed.. smart cards and mini coopers and the shops are pretty upscale! Beautiful views!

    nor84: When I went there (decades ago), I made two mistakes. The first was flying in. The airfield was on top of the island, and the wild bus ride to the beach was scary. There were cattle and (maybe) buffalo, and mirrors at the curves so the driver could see if any were in the road. The second mistake was riding horseback to the top of the island. Had to eat dinner standing up. At that time, there was a bird park, and there were glass-bottom boat rides around to the isthmus. Spent a couple of days in a rental, so had time to do all that. -

twinklepoems: I always love being reviewed by someone who has been on here only since this month, who has posted nothing, who has no fans and is following no one. Ghost FanStorians....ooooooo! Interesting how the reviews are never...ummm...substantial...constructive....Oh, well!
    nor84: the 3-star review? That was from a Standard (nonpaying) "member" and that's why I block them. To block standards, look under advanced options when you post, and you can block reviews by nonwriters. Be sure to recheck with the next posting, because it can change back to the default, which is to allow standard members to review your work. -
    twinklepoems: Thanks nor82. How do you know if a member is Standard or just when you check the profile? Thanks so much for that tip! -
    nor84: It shows on their profile. Most of ours say "Premier" but a standard member just has "standard." Actually, you were lucky. Often they leave 1 star reviews. -
    Sally Carter: I've said this many times before, to the point now of boring even myself, but sometimes the comments by standard members are more truthful than those of premier members, who've been sucked into the 5 star culture, or who don't want to hurt friends. I'm not saying this is the case here (who knows?) but I think we should dismiss clearly rubbish comments with rueful acceptance and be prepared to consider the articulate ones as dispassionately as we can. Even in major newspapers, an album or show which a producer clearly thought was worth banking money on, will get slated by a reviewer and given one star. In fact I saw such a one star review in a magazine this morning. -
    Scarbrems: Quite right, Sally. And we mustn't forget that some of our best reviewers have said they will be going to standard membership only, soon, so we might have to suck it up and let 'em in, good and bad. -

    Malachai: I actually love to get low reviews they challenge me to write better and I agree new people don't hold back they say whether it is a talented good poem or a boring untalented one. I just love honest feedback. I do not howevr like to feel like another pet is one upping me because they may have just one a contest and their ego is way to big. I hope to always remain humble here and grow as a writer and tell the truth about the poems I review in a kind considerate way. I was knew and blocked by a top ranked author because she totally misinterpretted my feedback. Anyway it is a shame cause she is an incredible poet and now I can't see her work or tr to recocile her misperceptions of my feedback. It sure can get tough on here at times but I am here for a while. Love you all even the author who blocked me. -

twinklepoems: Hi, I am doing my own informal poll. If you review someone's work would your rather they send you a thank you or review your work? (If you could only pick one)
    DIS-illusioned: If I gave them 4 stars, or less, a simple 'Thank you' would suffice (I don't want them reviewing my work--LOL!).
    But, if I gave them a 5 or 6, then they better tickle me good with fluff reviews and ONLY 6-star ratings. LOL!

    nor84: If they feel I had a lot to offer them, I'd appreciate a thumb vote, or I'd like a review. "Thanks" by itself doesn't mean much. Could be "Thanks a bunch" or "Thanks, you jerk." The reviewer can't tell what's meant. Some people, though, don't review prose, so from them "Thanks" is OK by me.

    TDLRasmar: I always like knowing what people think about the things I write, so I would rather have a review. It makes no difference if the review is praising or critical, in fact, I appreciate the critical ones more than the fluffy ones. I always feel that if someone doesn't like something then I need to take a hard look at it because if just one person doesn't like it and you project that into a larger population it could be hundreds, or even more. I try not to take things personally and I honestly haven't found anyone that was intentionally cruel. People here really want to help. -
