Tonilynn: Been writing since the age of 12, but I was never able to share it with anybody. I was ashamed of my writing and most times digusted with myself for even having written that down. I am 35 yrs and Bipolar I, and proud to say that I had only 1 episode of mania in the last 2 yrs. Thank-you Dr. Stuart. My son is Bipolar II, and my daughter is ADHD with Bipolar tendencies. My ability to relate and understand their thoughts and emotional/mental suffering gave me a new insight of life, which turned to an inspiration. I decided I needed to share my poems, people need to know and learn to understand mental illness, what better way then to read my work from a 1st person perspective and for just amoment see the world through my eyes. Spent the past few months navigating this website, decided today was the day to start. My husband Chris(Not a litery man) and my sister, Jeana, were the first to read my work. My husband was surprised, although he did not understand my poem, he told me the way I used common words in a sentence was unbelievable. Jeana cried, she said my metaphoric expressions gave my poems a power to take a simple group of word to a personal level. Today, I am going to share one with the whole world. |
