Yes, a tragic ending to a girl's disappearance, Marjon. Your words are heartfelt and poignant. They create great imagery in the minds of readers, too. What a sad remembrance. I can tell of its huge impact bringing sadness to you.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Beautifully penned throughtout its three irregular unrhymed stanzaic structure form and its drammatic true narrative story lined content.Every day mostly girls disappear on far-off mediterranean shores or elsewhere captured and slave traded as fresh merchandise for harem, workers, prostitution and so many other destinations. This girl has drowned but who ever knows the truth? Great work !

Dear Marjon I am glad you found compassion enough for this young woman to immortalize her in this poem, But I wish, because you have no restrictions as to meter or rhyme, that you change the last word to another word entirety. Just the word 'bad' does not fit the elegance of the rest of the words in the poem.

Yes, you have a point here. I just changed "bad" in "in enchantment".
    What do you think?
    Thanks for the review.

Finally Found
by Marjon van Bruggen

Hello, Marjon,

A haunting image of the drowned girl in the lake. It's very sad. Good imagery and presentation. Well done.

That's another powerful image there, the image of the girl floating in the lake with the serpent hair. I know this is about a murder victim, but the first thing that came to mind was the legend of Salmacis, the naiad queen who seduces Hermaphroditus, popularized by Genesis in their song, Fountains of Salmacis. In your poem there is a great sense of loss here, of trying to reach out and it is too late to make that connection, to save her. Its like a mourning of a life taken too soon. estory

Thank you so much for the review, Estory. The news and the images took me by surprise and I felt so shocked and hurt inside, as if I knew the girl myself and found her drowned. The impact made me write the poem. The legend of Salmacis...yes, now you mentioned it. But it was not in my mind when I wrote this poem.

There is a sense of finality in the last three lines of your poem, "Finally Found," that juxtaposes well with the dreamy, watercolor lines of the first two stanzas--it is as if reality suddenly imposes itself on an otherwise restful reverie, "...the arms, soft and wide, are smiling... ."
Thank you for writing and sharing your haunting poem, "Finally Found."

This is a sad true story and your story sends a shiver down my spine, such a tragedy, I think your last word should be (badly). A poignant write, Love Dolly x

A very well-written heartfelt and emotional poem about a missing girl finally found in a lake where she has drowned. It is always sad to learn about stories like this that seem to make no sense.

Oh so sad... it breaks my heart... The poem was able to convey its message clearly. My eyes read it, my mind processed it, the thoughts went down to my heart and I felt it deeply.

Perfectly Written & Image/Art work fits with everything.

A life lost, a girl who could've been forgotten, but finally found. Too many meet this sort of fate these days, it's mind-boggling. And a cause of great sorrow, as well as concern. I loved the wording of this poem, and how it described this poor girl's discovery, ending with "I wish it was just a fairy dream that ended bad". I share the same sentiment! Thanks for sharing xoxoxox
