I would've awarded a six for this where have all the sixes gone lament, but I'm fresh out. I would've awarded six because it's plain good reading, very entertaining and something we all lament about at one time or another.

Yeah, I guess our work's just fiver stuff, not sixer, most of the time.

I like your work and think it is deserving of many six star ratings gracing it. I hope you got a few with this my friend!

Thanks for stopping by! Per addendum to footnote--I am being facetious--not hinting for sixes--though always delighted to get them--if there was no cap fives would be considered insulting!

You're right there! People would then be offended to get fives, so it is a case of where does it stop? I love getting sixes, so long as they are genuinely given. I know you're being facetious, but hey! Getting those six shiny stars does add somewhat to our ego cache!

.. took you at your word! all reviews are subjective and depend on the mood and interests of the reader. the best reviews are the ones which prompt you to improve, be a little better.
you are a big star in my book. I liked the jauntiness of your poem.

Ah your sense of humor is fun to read. In prose, or poetry. You had fun with this song and its great to express those frustrations and also illustrate the contrast between individual expectations and the public's perception of it. estory

Thanks for stopping by! I had great fun with this--I put a note lest people thought I was fishing vs facetious. Three reviewers tossed me a six regardless!

If there was no six cap fives would be considered insulting--when I first joined I wrote a piece on this theme--headlined: What next--exceptionally exceptional?

A very well-written heartfelt poem. I usually get the following message at least once a week 'an excellent poem, one of the best poems I read today, unfortunately, I have no more sixes left' So welcome to my club.

This is fun and so true. I, too long for the sixes but, I have become more appreciative when I receive one. That, as far as I can see, is why we have a 'cap' on the amount of sixes we are allowed to give. They might not mean as much if we were given an enormous number of sixes to hand out. There are a lot of flaws in 'the system' but, acceptance of what is is where I try to go when I lament on it. I hope you are just tongue-in-cheek when it comes to the ending of this piece. Self-deprecating humor can be a double-edged sword if one is not careful. I enjoyed reading this and can relate to how you feel.
Take care,
Jesse

You are welcome, Liz. You make an excellent point. One that is lost on many, I am afraid. Have a great weekend!

You might just as well name this "humor poetry" (is that a category?) even though it certainly works as lyrics. I wouldn't hold out for the Top 50, unless the whole world flocks to FanStory and would therefore understand the value of a six!
But I'll give you a six, just for asking so nicely and poetically.

How ssssssweet of you Mary Kay! I feared some might take this as a serious solicitation for sixes. I wrote this as a tongue-in-cheek spoof on our star-system with some self-deprecating humor tossed in (but, hey, I'm happy to accept the bonus). Cheers. LIZ

Well, I really think this clever, creative poem deserves a 6! I wish they would let us give more than six--maybe ten a week anyway! I love that Johnny Rivers song. I'll be singing it on and off all day, but I'll be saying
"sixes" instead of "flowers"!

I'm sure you're aware, Elizabeth, that people grade on a curve around here. Several curves, I'm afraid. Two of my least favorites are the Reciprocal Curve, and the Buddy Curve. Then there's the I-expect-more-from-you curve where you are held to an arbitrarily higher standard, otherwise known as the No-good-writing-goes-unpunished curve.
A few years ago, the cap was 4 sixes. The numbers change, but the curves remain constant.

Peace, Lee

So true--that's why I rarely give sixes to fans or frequent fliers--I don't want "reviewing" to devolve into a you-suck-mine-I'll-suck-yours scenario--bad enough that the high-five is Storyland's bylaw. (I once got a four for falling short of stupendous!)

Aww. Sorry! I don't think your work is "pap" - whatever that could mean. But "six" sixes are just too few when Saturday night comes and my Inbox floods. Thanks for re-promoting this one. Do you think new posts garner more sixes than re-promoted ones? Or do anonymous posts get fewer sixes than known writer ones?

Of course--I am being facetious--not hinting for sixes--though always delighted to get them--if there was no cap fives would be considered insulting! I don't think it matters whether 1st or subsequent promotions--toss up as to who reads when--as far as anons or unfamiliars--probably fewer than for knowns--esp. friends/fans--I give mine mainly to those who don't review my work--don't want to be construed as expecting it for tat.
