Mothers are creatures all on their own. They have their own ways of doing things, they have lived longer, and think they know more than we do. Well done!

Lol. Well-meaning moms can be far from helpful. I suppose it gave her a sense of purpose to think she was helping you - doing her motherly duty. She just didn't think that the best way to be a good mom of a perfectly capable grown daughter is to step back and appreciate. It's so difficult with our closest relatives, isn't it?

My mom's a force to be reckoned with, too. But I just passively let her run the show. But I probably have the waterlogged salad from overwashing.

One question:
I don't want [to?] toss it all up (wondered if your meant the infinitive here)

This brought a big smile, a laugh out loud and a subtle nodding of the head...not that my mother was the same as yours, but she had her "ways" of making me feel a bit, um, amateur in the kitchen. It's good to read you again; I so love how you describe things and the natural way you bring your characters together, both in dialogue and description. Hence the six shiny stars! Your mother sounds like the sort of person one could share a few drams with...and salad greens. Loved it!

"A Force to be Reckoned With: #1" was very amusing. Reading mostly about the salads got me giggling. You've protruded characters that most anyone can relate to. Thanks for giving me entertainment.

Thanks for stopping by--with a bonus to boot! So glad you can relate and found this tale entertaining. The other two installments were released last week without promotion; they can be found in my profile, but you won't get paid unless you wait until I promote it (probably Saturday). Cheers. LIZ

This is realistically fantastic, a nice thoughtful projection of feelings, experiences of expecting and enduring a parental visit; well said, well done; I have enjoyed the read; thank you for sharing this; keep writing. ALCREATOR

You've done a great job of making your mom come alive in living color. It seemed she was well loved by the grandchildren. Maybe all those wrapped presents had something to do with that. My own mom as a character as well but not it the way as as your mom.

Ha! Oh what a picture you've painted of an overbearing mother! I love the irony of the last line and your wordplay throughout the story. I would have liked to see a little more dialogue in the piece to show to typical back and forth between mother and daughter rather than telling the reader what had happened in the past. But that's just personal preference! Really enjoyed this. Thank you!

Thank you Sophie--that was quick! I'll be posting the next two parts as soon as can get them in--I've had to type it off hard-copy (and rework the piece as I do so.) The second part doesn't have much dialog either--largely reminiscence; part three has quite a bit of dialog--hope you'll come back to visit! Cheers. LIZ
