Sometimes, memories are all you're left with, and no one can take them away. I enjoyed reading your poem, going through your childhood, teen years, and time in WAC. Well done, it was a pleasure to read. :)) Sandra xx

This song brings a wonderful way to express your poem. Beautiful words sung by an exquisite voice that expresses the meaning of your life or someone else's. I love to listen to musicals, especially about memories. Great poem, Diana. I hope you do post this poem for the contest.

A poetic journey in free verse evoking nostalgia and reminiscence of days gone by and the memories, some like 'perfume' and others 'bittersweet '-thanks for sharing

A very well-written free verse poem about a trip down memory lane, to become a first time mother is always scary and beautiful at the same time. From that moment we gathered bittersweet memories.

I think this is filled with a lot of imagery and memories that would be fun to play with... I feel there are a lot of superfluous words and at times reads like sentences. I do love free verse (it is what I write) - but poetic devices are still necessary and I'd like to see more employed here. I think you are close to a very good poem.

This sounds like the kind of poem that could be the frontispiece or dedication of a life story, fully written at some point. I like the imagery that comes from sitting in a grandfather's lap, and how he becomes the father who appears to have been lost at some point. The Women's Army Corps sounds kind of intriguing--and difficult!
Favorite lines:
where the deepest of love
could be found
on grandpa's lap,

Thank you Crystie! My father was a bit of a vagabond in my early life, but my grandparents were right there to fill the gap. The WAC was the original women's corp in the Army and it ended as such the year I got out in 1978. Everyone was called enlisted men and women after that. appreciate you enjoyed the journey with me! xoxo

I don't know why, because it was clearly announced "memory lane" , but I found this one rather confusing. I kept wanting to invent new people and seed the poem with extra generations.
