The biggest hurtle, I understand, is surviving rejection. It is only the satisfaction of eventual acceptance that one can appreciate the rare air in which you then breathe. No time for wannabes there.

Wow! Such a creative and inspirational contest entry! Being a woman who has eaten in the teachers' lounge plenty of times, I smiled when I read of microwaved frozen meals, leftovers, and talk of kids, pets, celebrities... it's all SO relatable! And, good for you to have that positive attitude. Wait one minute now, maybe you are ALREADY a bestselling author and entering the anonymous contest just for fun:)

Hi Amy, So nice of you to stop by to read and review my true story. I love your comments! I have four published books so far, and another (Love Long Distance), co-authored with Bill Bishop (Commando), an AWESOME writer on FS, coming out in just a few months. You can find our posted chapters on my profile page. We are also working on four other books, too. While I haven't yet achieved Bestselling Author status, I have sold many books in the past eight years. I truly believe this next one will be the one! Keep believing in your dreams--they can come true! Wishing you all the best.
    Blessings,
    Cathy

You mentioned not understanding and not being "up to date" when she was listening to the conversation, and I really liked that because I feel like it is relatable.

Your essay, Mystery Author, is AWESOME. I loved reading it. I felt like I was one of the women in the break room hearing all of what you discussed. It read well with great organization, flow, and information.

I like the beginning where readers are immediately immersed in your story. I understand how conversations in a break room can be both interesting and gossipy. You gave readers much insight to this group of women. The topics discussed really are mostly trivial. You, as the 'secret' writer seemed to be taking it all in.

Then you dropped the bomb on them that you were a writer. Love it. The comment about ' well maybe someday you might become a well-known author' sounded great with a tinge of jealousy on the part of the woman who spoke.

I like the idea that her comment led her to see for herself that she had much to say and tor believe in herself as a writer despite the numerous rejection slips from publishers. Her perseverance and determination proved that she is a strong woman and will fight to be heard. That is a great motivational attitude for all writers. The video was great--I knew the authors and their works. I'm thrilled they persevered and enriched our literary heritage. To the author in your story, I say, "Bravo!"

Thanks for sharing and best wishes for a contest win.
Respectfully with Love and Admiration,
Jan

What I got out of this little essay is how important the opinions of people around us is in shaping our own sense of self esteem and our view of ourselves and what we can accomplish. it is interesting that the encouragement of the co workers seems to have lifted your own hopes so much. That need for social acceptance and social reward is such a big part of our individual psyche. We are in many ways the people around us. estory

Hi estory, I like what you share here. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing this story. Yes, I suppose we are in many ways the people around us, but many also can try to pull us down at times. We have to keep believing in ourselves and our dreams, no matter what. Wishing you all the best.

I like this encouraging letter about staying positive, believing in yourself, and continuing to write with conviction and hope that you will someday do well with publishing your own books. Who knows? Let's all keep writing and aspiring, Bill

That is right, you've got to be an optimist and keep that dream alive. If you haven't got enough faith in yourself, why would anyone else? This was a really excellent story with a superb moral at the end. Well done and good luck in the contest. Sandra xx

I enjoyed you story. I believe you may very well become a best selling author. This reminds me of times I've dared to mention to friends I writing my autobiography. I get the some response you did with all the seemingly interested comments. Then I wonder if they thinking, "Yeah, right. She just wants attention." I wish I'd just waited until one day when they see my book in bookstores

Hi Beth, Thanks for reading this true story. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I am not a bestselling author...yet! But, I know it is possible and it will happen. I have written and published four novels so far with lots of readers and many opportunities. Also, I'm so excited that "Love Long Distance" co-authored with Bill (Commando), will be published in a few months. HURRAH! Keep mentioning your autobiography to your friends. Many talk about writing someday, but you are doing it. I will tell you the thrill you'll get when you see your first book in the bookstore is immeasurable. It'll happen! Wishing you all the best.

Your short story gives many of us writers hope. Never give up they say! I like your story because it gives us encouragement. And we need that to continue writing. I have self-published books. Evidently you have tried the traditional way of writing, being you have received rejection letters.

Hi Rosemary, HURRAH! Thank you so much for the AWESOME six star rating and review. I am HONORED! I'm so glad you like this true story and it gives other writers encouragement. My first two books were published by a smaller publisher who took on all the expenses. I learned a lot before they closed their business. Despite publishing for about 30 authors, they couldn't compete with Amazon. I then decided to self-publish, and now I also own my own publishing business. HURRAH! Wishing you all the best.

I really enjoyed this happy and encouraging story! The language was emotive and really captured the essence of what it is to write and achieve.

One suggestion, in the opening paragraph a lot of the words have been double spaced, which is a bit distracting to follow!
