This sounds dreadful -then it snowed and snowed and snowed -sounds like that Christmas was far too white. It would have been a scary time and you describe it well in this Cascade Poem.

Well. I for one am sorry it took out that old oak tree! lol I remember a blizzard that no one was able to go anywhere or do anything but the kids had a blast for 5 days.

I remember the blizzard of '66. We were out of power for at least a week, I think. Pipes froze, and it was a disaster for our family, but as a kid I liked all the snow.
I like your repeated line about the mighty oak, but the shock was not the loss of the tree.
It snowed and snowed and snowed.

I remember the blizzard of '66. We were out of power for at least a week, I think. Pipes froze, and it was a disaster for our family, but as a kid I liked all the snow.

Taking out a mighty oak is a heckuva thing because that tree must've been at least a hundred years old, yes?
Specific dates work very well here too. The thundersnow lightning just unusual enough of an occurrence to lend intrigue to your cascade poem.

Do to my stroke I can't remember the year but do remember being snow in so bad It was hard to get of my doorway a neighbor had to clean it before We were frozen in.

This is a wonderful poem! I remember that kind of storm, I think in 1968. We had just moved to upstate northeastern New York, 30 min from Canada, from New Jersey, where we used to get an inch of snow. It snowed and snowed for 4 days, and we couldn't even open our doors. There were 12 foot drifts and no school for a week. Thank you for this lovely poem, which brought back wonderful memories. We loved it! Very well written.
