This poem has a deep sense of sadness and longing. These feelings are a contrast to the brightness of the flowers and the sun. So many memories are left behind when someone is lost. It's a very beautiful poem.

Nice poem. She sees the blue vase on the desk. It's the first place her eyes are drawn to because it's the first thing she has seen every day in that same spot for the last forty years. She knows this will be the last time she'll ever see it. After today the house will be gone. She picks up the vase to take it with her. As she leaves she whispers "I miss you, Mom."
LOL I made up my own story~

    Hello Patty!
I love your take on my poem.
    Close!
My mother was a master floral designer. There was deep sadness when she was forced to move to an assisted living facility. I wrote of that day in two poems that can be found in my portfolio: "She Knew" and "Memories in a Mason Jar."
But this poem is in honor of her birthday, her love of daffodils, and my love for her...
    Thank you!

You're welcome! My sister is living at an assisted living apartment and she hated it until she found a lot of friends. I was worred for a while but much better now. Happy Birthday to your mom, whenever it was!

Hello Diane, this is so beautiful - I sense the pain in the words. This piece causes me to cry, because I identify and think of my Mother, and when I do the tears well up. 'I inhale a lifetime of memories as tears fall.' That is heart wrenching. Does the pain ever cease when we think of our mothers? A worthy six, one I rarely give for these short poems. Good Luck - regards Dorothy x

    Hello Dorothy!
I am so sorry for my late reply.
Know for a certainty that I am honored by your exceptional rating and heartfelt review.
My mother was such a positive and dynamic force in my life. I credit everything I know of flowers, gardening, and beauty to her... She is never more than a thought away...especially when daffodils appear.
    Thank you again!

Lovely image both in the words and the picture - Fourteen Narcissus - to remember your mom in this way - creative. Nice Nonet. if this is a contest, good luck. I'm glad to see your work on Fanstory.

The title attracted me, the picture drew me in and the poem itself just kept me reading. All in all a nicely presented package. Good luck in the contest.

A very well-written heartfelt Nonet about the blue vase and yellow narcissus reminds of a loving mother no longer around to share our joys and tears, but we remember them through the little things they cared about.

Although only you would know why the tears fall, it does resonate that a particular scene or flower would be the catalyst of something quite nostalgic or sentimental. The Nonet is gracefully complete in its description.

"Bending, I inhale
a lifetime of
memories" this is especially poignant.

The comfort of embracing the familiar, being reminded of things that have always given us comfort, peace and enjoyment can, literally bring us to tears. When we are far away from home and things known to us, our recollections will often gravitate to things we used to enjoy. So, when we return to those things, the joy of being reconnected can overwhelm us with sentiment. Beautifully stated.

Awesome work! You painted a vivid mental picture which is quite poignant. Flowers affect me the same way you described it. Love this poem. Should score high in the contents. Hugh
