Love is giving so much of oneself giving love that lasts a life time, the kind we used to be live in. The forever after kind. Mine has departed but he maybe gone but not forgotten.

This is AWESOME, Commando! Your art choice sets the tone for readers with its beautiful depiction of love. The gold background with the couple in the foreground is a beautiful example of love. Your free verse is well-written. You have used alliteration and internal rhyming to add depth and enjoyment to your presentation. The internal rhyming is an added bonus that many overlook in their free verse writing. It is an applicable technique that elevates the ordinary to extraordinary! The many examples you state give credence to the fact that there is so much to love surrounding us at all times. We just have to open our eyes and embrace the concept of love as something that is always, and will be always there, IF we take the time to appreciate and LOVE what we see and feel. Love isn't what we see on tv and other media. It is the beauty of nature that God has provided; and it is loving our fellow man and that one special person God sent to us.
The 'simple things' are so eloquently stated. I love the mention of the little children on Christmas morning, the baby birds, the deer, and the baby ducks following mama. I love how you invite readers to love their sisters and brothers. There are many forms of love. We need to appreciate all and forget the materialistic 'things' that are not true love.
My favorite line--well I would need to copy the whole poem--but the line 'happy dreams of tomorrow--void of sorrow' is perfect. If one looks for real love, then they will find it despite what has happened in the past--there is always hope.
I love how your first verse states 'what is love' and the last verse sums up what is love. The 'in between' those lines contain beautiful examples to support your point.

I think because we let society rule our lives that we forget the simple things that matters most. If we dwell in the love God has provided for us, then we will keep ourselves centered in what is really important. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us and good luck.

Unless I don't understand something, you have han-in-hand, And I think you meant that HAN to be hand. Also later in the poem you are waking from a dream about fishing, and you left the H out of fishing. Don't want to criticize, just to let you know.
