I like that disappearing door, to shut down his cockiness for a while before he meets the little people of the gardens. They do sound like a cheerful mob.

Oh, we'll definitely keep you on your toes, my lady!! ;) Thank you again for your time -- so glad you're enjoying! ;) Yvette

I like these small stories. I appreciate you using color in your font, it livens up the reading. The picture is also quite delightful. I hope to see more of the same. Karen

Comment from pome lover
oooo, fantasy - little people and magic. Wonderful. Aren't you clever to take a contest question and turn it into a full fledged multi-chaptered piece!
Onward and upward.

The gardens are always decorated with gnome but not real talking ones. Interesting story about the previous groundskeeper. They evidently were glad that he was gone.

'"I've got this, Sir Phillipe." I grinned, because, seriously, how hard could it be to water plants? "No worries!" I hollered at his back as he walked away.' (I love the naivety that young people possess. Well done!)
What a great way to 'introduce' the gnome.

LOL!! I am so glad you're enjoying this one, R -- I'm sorry I'm so far behind, but the weekend and the beginning of this week were a whirlwind: how in the world did Wednesday get here already? ;) :)

Very exciting, indeed, and the humor continues... Mr. Thrasher is G-Trash to Constantine! I love fantastical stories, with gnomes and disappearing doors! I especially like the white beard, braided in three. Very creative, Lady Yvette!

Oh! Now this is was not expecting at all, but what a delight! Your descriptions have me right there with Nick, your characters are rich, the dialogue highly believable. What's not to love about this story? Can't wait to read more!!!

Hooray!! I'm so very glad you're enjoying Nicholas and company -- I really enjoy this crew as I imagine things that would have made my boys interested in reading at that 'pre-teen' age... ;) :) Thank you, THANK YOU for your enthusiasm and for those wonderful stars, O Lady of the North!! You and Miss Priss take care up there! ;) Yvette

Indeed, how hard can it be to water a few plants. Ha, ha, ha. This is beginning to sound a lot like "The Secret Garden" but a bit (a lot bit) more fantastical. I like all the characters (creatures) so far. I think I missed the prologue, to need to catch up there. Thanks for the character listing. It helps. Loren

This is an extremely imaginative start to the book proper - a shifting garden shed (or at least the door leading to it) and plants worthy of a children's fairy tale.
