Obviously the 'he' in this story doesn't think he had done anything to forgive, but for her, she's learnt over the years to forgive herself and get on with life, painful memories and all. An emotional free verse Trisha, thanks for sharing,
cheers,

Abusers never see their faults, the abused through weakness deny and excuse the abuse. Until they can find the inner strong self they will never be free.
Good verse,
Rikki:)xo

You deliver a poignant and well penned Free Verse. You express the bitter emotions of an abusive relationship splendidly. Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

This heartfelt poem makes me want to cry. Maybe it is weak not to leave an abusive man, but if kids are involved, it might be the strongest thing you ever do. To me there is certainly no forgiveness that is required.
I love your eloquent, thought out words, but you are hard on yourself.

abuse, mental or physical is a terrible thing and so hard to recover from. The freedom brought to you by forgiving them, but not their acts is immense and life reaffirming. Remaining something akin to friends is the high wire act follow-on at least for the kids again...
