Congrats on your placement in the contest, but of course I think it was far better! Your story is so thought provoking! You have touched upon all the attributes of a relationship that definitely need to be considered! I love the last part! Thankfully my daughter found just this kind of love and I am so happy knowing she has an awesome guy at her side :) xo

Congratulations on placing in the contest. Your chapter for Book of the Month is very well done. Common sense in an honest, straightforward fashion. Great job. Marilyn

If you ever pass through Vermont, I hope that you will come visit me, see my cool cabin. Cheers, mystery writer, haha

My best friend from college lives in Middlesex. Ordinarily, each summer we meet halfway between our two places, so, Lake George. But we could change it up this year, and I could visit her there and then come visit you! Let me know what you think about that! xo

Yeth please. That would be great. My cabin is at Jay peak. Would love you to see it. Two things you might want to google. Bread and puppet, a magical circus in a farmers field with huge puppets and fresh bread. Beautiful people on a Sunday, just being royal. The other thing is the Shelburne museum. Really neat place. Oh, I would love a visit! Cheers, j

Will you still be there in August? SueAnne and I usually meet up the first weekend.
reply by judester on 13-Jun-2019
I will be. I live on lake Memphremagog in Quebec and my cabin is twenty minutes and a border away in Jay. Okay counting sleeps. Haha, cheers and welcome. Judy

Your eight points may be the wisest relationship advice ever presented in such compact form. It ought to be required reading in junior high school before serious relationships develop. No wonder your second marriage is so stable and fulfilling.

You are right on every point; and the salon owner is the perfect foil, as her choice of wealth over love is already leading to restlessness.

Superb. Here's another Virtual Six. Congratulations for winning Second Place in the Book of the Month Contest.

Loved this. Loved all the pre-amble about your hairdresser. I've got a cousin like that.
As a 22 years-married person I agree with most of your advice. I'm 'on' my first husband, and have no intention of having another.

' You can opt to stay put after the initial discovery and catharsis, but you'll spend every subsequent day pretending that you don't really hear anything scrabbling around in the dark corners of your world.' A great way of putting it, and probably very true. I wouldn't know. It is not a path I have, fortunately, had to tread with my husband.

'The bottom line is this: If your union isn't enjoyable, then you've totally missed the point of it.' - Amen to that. My mother always said, 'marriage is hard work'. she was in the wrong marriage.

A great write, as always.

This is a topic that has generated a lot of interest, and your comments are well thought out and well expressed. I find it amazing how a person's outward appearance can be so different from what's going on inside. Apparently, she has everything she could wish for financially, but her marriage is in trouble. Her predicament is that her workaholic husband is so much older than she, and she has a yen for younger guys. This is turning the tables, as she asked for your advice. Usually its the client who seeks advice from the beautician. Very perceptive. judi

Thanks, Judi. It went in one ear and out the other for her, though. That entry is from two years ago, and since then, she has divorced him, moved into a condo, and begun dating another much older, rich guy. (I guess because it worked so well for her last time...) Oy.

This is excellent writing -- both in content and delivery. I like the following line: Salon Code requires complete disclosure at all times. Your description of the salon owner is humorous, and then you get down to business. The "diamonds you unearthed" are profound, yet, so sensible one wonders why they aren't obvious to us all.

I have one suggestion re: the writing. I think the line "So, whyever in the world...? would be stronger minus the "So," especially since you have "then" later. Or maybe "Whyever, then, are you accepting it for yourself?" The extra verbiage weakens what should come across as a powerful jab.

I see this was written a couple of years ago, or the encounter with gossipy manicurist happened a couple of years back. I wonder if she did the right thing and got a life of her own? Money does not in itself make people 'rich'. Sage counsel beautifully written, Sweetheart.

    Thank you, my always-supportive friend.

I know -from a mutual friend, since I no longer patronize her- that she's now divorced, living in a condo...and having an affair with another rich guy twenty years her senior. She's obviously learned a lot.

She must be an airhead, or have very expensive tastes... she just got used to being pampered with a cushion of wealth. Being poor I can still have a rich life... I've cut my cloth to suit.

Salon Girls never learn, I swear. They love drama and have to keep learning the same lesson over and over and over.
