I don't tend to gravitate toward "sermons" on this site, but yours was well written and I appreciate your passion for sharing your faith. The other thing that I liked was your opening about the wife/neighbor, as it tied into the rest of the writing. Happy Easter!

Thank you for sharing this. I like your illustration of the woman being a better neighbour than a wife. Like you, I believe that we must spend time in God's Word, because that is where we get our spiritual food. If we love Jesus, we will love His Word

This story reminds me of one of my uncle's, he and my aunt lived in separate homes. Some people feel they can not get a divorce. Their religion forbids them. At least they were religious. Thank you for sharing this poem.

This is a well written piece. Your spirituality comes shining through your writing. The topic is relatable to some but the message is strong and hopefully received by most. I am not a Christian but I can appreciate your conviction and the spreading of knowledge with others.

Life is so strange, our feeling is so selfish, we make mistake and invest our futile thought to taste the words written in the scripture, being God-fearing, we wish to deepen our relationship with God, our faith is sometime not so deep as we feel; well said, well done; post god speed more; positively encouraging editing, negatively not wording, forgiving errors of theist-good authors-writers. Hello Dennis,
I found the story of the neighbor rather entertaining, and the point you are making with it is interesting. I've got a one year bible NIV that I read from. I have several other daily devotionals that I read as well. My problem, quite frankly, is that I know scripture, but I don't do as I know to do. I'm not saying I'm evil all the time, but I still choose to wrong when I know better. I get tired of the struggle sometimes buddy. In any event, I'm glad you shared what was on your mind.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Dear brother Tom, a good understanding of Romans 7+8 can alleviate a good deal of tension over the battle every Christian experiences between our new nature and our "old man nature", the one were born with.
The important thing to realize is there is no condemnation for having a sin nature and the way to get victory over its ALWAYS evil impulses is to keep on being "renewed in your mind" and thus filled with the Spirit.

Here's Paul's summation on the subject: Galatians 5:16: I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
NOTE: he doesn't say we won't have "the lust of the flesh" but walking in the Spirit will keep us from fulfilling them.

17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."

So its victory through Jesus, whom the Holy Spirit manifests and magnifies to us. Victory from death and Hell but also by empowering us with His presence to overcome our ever present old nature. These are truths worthy of pursuing my brother! God bless you, Dennis

I like the analogy of the wife being more like a neighbor. In order to have a deeper relationship with God, we need to be more than a neighbor like you describe here. The way to become more than a neighbor is to read God's word. Excellent essay here that reminds the reader to read the Bible for a deeper faith.

Oh yes indeed, when we realise what we have gained compared to what we have lost, there is no comparison, He gave me a life I did not have before, which, if that was the only blessing, it is worth far, far more than I have ever have, we lose nothing, but gain everything Dennis, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Well written.
The only hazard I see is in an over-confidence in learning all about God the father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit rather than as I think I remember you writing in another piece - knowing Jesus, himself, through prayer, praise, and worship. Modern 'Pharisees' know all about Biblical rules and mores.
But you are right - most of us are far too weak on scripture reading to be in any danger of being over-religious.
Best wishes.

Thank you, Wayne. I think we get our best understanding of Jesus and His love through the scriptures. And I do believe God is willing to teach His Word so we can truly worship Him from our hearts.
Thanks for reading and commenting. God bless you, Dennis

Deniz,

A very insightful post. Certainly, we can never come to know Christ until we decide to get to know Him as He wants us to. We can never count on others to get us to heaven. It's the responsibility of each person to study and learn their own way to a personal, righteous relationship with God and Christ. It's the only way anyone can be saved.

Thank you.
