Dear Writer,
Interesting story. You really were at a low point, had made a terrible mistake, but in the end you mentally won out and from there climbed the stairs back to a stable life. It is written so the reader can feel your pain and subsequent satisfaction of triumphing. Well done.
Good luck in the contest.
Regards,
Winslow

Now, why would I hurt you after reading such a wonderful story. I love that you recovered after the alcohol incident which was a terrible thing for you to do to your young body. BTW, I agreed with the punishments. I have probably paddled you if you hadn't been 16. haha
Good luck in the contest with this great true story.

I really enjoyed reading your story although I don't usually enjoy sporting stories. I found this really gripping from start to finish. Good luck in the competition. Cheers Jen.

Thank you Jen. I never really thought of this so much as a sporting story until I saw it on paper. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Your welcome. I voted for it. Jen.

Good for you. I know how it feels. I have a son who excels at basketball. In the final game of his senior year, he was playing for the state championship. They lost in double overtime. He was so upset he kicked a door not realizing the bottom was a painted glass window. He severed his Achilles tendon and the doctor said he would never play again. He spent the summer sitting on the edge of our swimming pools kicking large swim fins. That fall he tried out for college and was the first freshman in the school history to make the starting five.

You did a good job with your contest entry, Earl. I enjoyed reading it. You gave readers great background info and other 'wrestling' info. I saw a couple of introductory clauses that could use a comma. Your picture is a great pairing with your story. I would delete the author notes as they identify you as the one who writes military stories based on your life as well as You Gotta Show up. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

I don't usually read sports stories, but I happened upon this one and I'm glad I did. If it is a true story, then kudos to you. You should take this story and read it in front of high school classes. It's so inspiring, and I love how you were knocked down so low, but didn't give up and ended up winning the wrestling match for your team. Great job!

An excellent inspirational contest entry. I really enjoyed your story, you told reflections on you and your family and how you came to where the wrestling match was the turning point of your life. Great Win! on and off the mat.
