You captured this perfectly and your ending gave me chills. Amazing feat with only 75 words... well done, lady! I can't wait to read your other works... bravo!

I love the ending of your short-short story. The artwork is perfect for the subject of the writing. It's good to see you are still around. I may start writing again before long. I had injections in my back a week and a half ago and today is the first day I have felt almost human in quite a while.

Cortisone can do wonders, but as you probably know, it lasts for aout six months before you need another. Hop every day gets better for you. Thanks for the review.

It's true. This actually makes me feel better about my living room and it not being cleaned. My dad's house burned down when he was in high school. He lost all the pictures and everything they had. Heart breaking but as long as no one is kill you can slowly move on together

It has to be a horrible vacuum losing all the touchstones of one's life. Time spent with people is rarely wasted. Thanks for reading/

Hi there,

Excellent piece of flash fiction here. It's real in that the drama and heartache is undercut by that last line. That's how to find the silver lining...lol

But more importantly, it reiterates the value and importance of life over things.

Subtle and nice

Six stars from THE recognized reviewer is the highest compliment anyone of FS can receive. Thank you .

I'm so very happy you received the title and compliment, but well-earned recognition of all you do to support writers on this site--especially prose, something of a dying art on FS. ten years ago when I started, I was fortunate enough to catch the attention of people like you who thought I was worth the investment of their time, and though all are now long gone, their support and help was pricelss--just as you currently give so graciously..

A wonderful entry in this contest, so poignant and sad, bu yet tiger wiith optimism for the future, they still lived, Gloria saying the big plus, at least I don't have to do the housework! Very touching, sensitive, life goes on...yeah? Well done, blessings, Roy

Such a devastating story with an uplifting ending... that seems to say that we need to spend the moments of our lives really living. I love this ending! Well done!

Good job, Spitfire, with your contest entry. Your picture is a good pairing with your little story. It makes me think that the mother can find the bright side even when bad things happen. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes. Jan

What a wonderfully optimistic character Gloria is!

I could do with a bit of this positivity:

Remembering the fun they'd had, Gloria smiled and hugged her daughter. "I'm glad I didn't waste the day cleaning."

What more can one say? Gone is gone.

Great irony at the end. It's hard to get through such a devastating loss as losing everything in the fire. Apparently, Gloria is going to try to make the best of things and even has a sense of humor with her line, "I'm glad I didn't waste the day cleaning." These short ones are hard to write, and you did an excellent job with yours. judi

Ha, I love the ending on this one, Ingrid. Any day is a waste of day cleaning, but on this particular day I'd say Gloria had it even more right than usual.

Excellent flash with all the required elements and I wish you luck in the contest.

Gloria
