The pun at the end made me laugh out loud after the serious, intellectual tone up until that point. You poured a lot of knowledge, vocabulary and history into a rhyming poem, which takes talent. Now, I am learning much more than one new word from your poems (and author's note.) Looks like it took tons of research, or maybe you are just that well-versed and educated:) Good luck in the contest, it is a very good entry.

Amazing to me how some people can make mathematics seem so simple to understand! This is a great poem. Thanks for teaching me some new words, too. :-)
I enjoyed your poem and the clever way you managed to weave the words together even using those names.
Nothing to suggest for corrections or edits.
All the best,
Jan

What a decorative prolific ode to such an ingenious man. The selected colors portray royalty and the man himself is a devout brilliant man of notoriety. i thank you for sharing this piece it broadens my awareness to such a brilliant man. I salute his contributions to this earth and I celebrate His existence that once graced this earth and breath his wisdom, intelligence and valor. Thank you for sharing this ode

It is hard to respond to this super cool poem. It has neat word captures, like vinipote and Bacchant, that blend with the addition of Descartes to get us to the fabulous final phrase that brings the house down. Fun stuff.

What a wonderful play on words, and thank you for the history lesson on this great man. I may find out more about Omar Khayyam. I hardly have his genius but I do appreciate his philosophy on life. This is a great poem!

He sounds like he would have made a great runaround buddy. To use your own example, who's gonna pick you up when you're down? - Khayyam - that's who.
Thanks for the history lesson.

Well, I certainly wouldn't be having him as my designated driver. He does sound like a lot of fun to hang with, though. Thanks for reviewing. Craig

Well done, Craig! I thought this was fantastic. Your rhymes were clever and very well researched. I thought you must have spent a good bit of time getting this all together, and it shows. Best of luck in the contest. I think this will do very well.
Take care,
Russell

Excellent poem, Craig--very well written, metered and rhymed.
I must admit, I'd never heard of Omar Khayyam before I read this.
Loved the double entendre in your final line.
Good stuff--good luck!

Thanks very much, Dean, for the kind words and good wishes. I'm actually surprised how many people hadn't heard of him. Then again, maybe I wouldn't be, if my mother hadn't had a copy of his Rubaiyat when I was a kid. If you're interested in reading more, it's available - translated by Fitzgerald - for free download on Project Gutenberg:
