This tells us the people's problem's are the same as they have always been and still poets use metaphor and other unclear ways to state their feelings and the happenings of life in their words. I ends with the hope of a new day erasing the doubt and fear of yesterday.

Congrats on placing second in the contest.

Keep writing

Joan

I made a short trip to San Francisco and fell way behind, but was pleased to find this recent post of yours as I try to catch up.

Thank you for sharing your reflections in this free verse and adding the glossary. I relished your intriguing title and use of alliteration, particularly the abundant "w's" plus the "flaccid sheets" simile. Best wishes in the competition- Joan

Thanks for more good wishes. We found a bargain airfare and spent an entire day at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art--quite a treat. More smiles- Joan

I would think this would be a winner in anyone's book! This free-style piece for me exemplifies what poets and thinkers feel about age and rebirth. The flow of this poem is seductive and hypnotizing. The last stanza is my favorite part as it overwhelms me with sounds, visuals and insight! Bravo! I haven't read this good a piece in any poetry book lately, Are you going to publish some more?

Many thanks for this review, Clem, and your award of six stars. I have just submitted another manuscript to my publisher for consideration. It will probably be up to a couple of months before I find out if it has been accepted or not. If it is accepted, then judging from previous experience, it will be a further 6-8 months before publication. I am hoping that it may be out before Christmas.

A bit too complex for me - but I'm very simple. I dislike repeated words no matter the effect. Particularly with powerful words like brindle. I will never be near your complex experience so may probably not live up the the complexity and power of your writing. I did spend a weekend coaching rugby referees in South Australia - I like the place. I'm from Southern California.

Thanks for your review, Frank. Appreciated. Glad you enjoyed your time in South Australia. I have good friends in San Diego and we get down there from time to time. A great part of the world, too.

I do so hope that you won this contest, as this is an excellent free verse composition, full of well crafted poetic imagery and technique. I was mesmerized as your flow of thoughts washed over my excited consciousness. Loved the used of those Gaelic terms: weald and weal. You captured my imagination in the very first stanza, with it nod to to poets wise. So descriptive, it flowed unrhymed as if it were.
Loved it Tony.

An excellent poem and fantastic contest entry. I especially liked your phrase "Diffuse the light of whispered dawn". It flowed well and carried a great rhythm. Well done.

Thanks, Sugarray, for noting that line. I had it in mind for another poem initially but it seemed to fit here better.

Tony, thank you for sharing such an eloquent piece of writing with us. The photo of the old woman was amazing. Some words I had to dig deep to understand. Nothing ever dies, great poets live on through their work. As we age we look forward to rebirth. Blessings, Kay.
Good luck in the contest!

A masterpiece of musical elements, imagery, and sentiment. This poem had it all; beautifully crafted language, with an ear to the music of it; gorgeous images with depth and weight to them, and a sentiment of the power of poetry to leave an impression of experience on the reader. "Diffuse the light of whispered dawn" A half seen purgatory of mists seen in flaccid sheets" "Seen in ecstasies of weald and wood" all masterful lines. You are keyed and pitched my friend estory

I loved this poem, Tony. Even though it is free verse, the abundance of rhyme and assonance give this a beautifully artistic feel. You have used many poetic devices which elevate this poem to a higher level and make it a real standout in the competition. I enjoyed reading it very much.
