This is a well written, brief and somewhat comical, yet sorrowful history of days gone by in our western history. Time brings change and not always appreciated by all. This is an entertaining peek at our past. Great picture! Thanks for sharing.

Great poem with good meter and rhyme which tells a fascinating tale of the old Wild West, before the coming of the railroads.
You really painted a picture for me of these painted ladies and the cowpokes they entertained, these were certainly tough times.
Great contest entry, good luck.

Some lines, at last, for ladies who sold love,
then disappeared into the dust of dawn.
Their future faded like a glittered glove;
a badge of beauty now long dead and gone. '
I am reading a great book called 'Madam' about this time and the brothels or bawdy houses that sprung up. It is truly fascinating. This poem is about such a subject but still manages to make the story poetic and full of gorgeous phrasing and words. A brilliant effort I wish I had a six to give al my warmest regards and best wishes Meia x

Hello Easyeverett,

This poem brought images to my mind of Gunsmoke shows, and all the western movies I have ever watched. The ladies of the saloons were certainly unique in their own way. Miss Kitty kept her gals and guys in good order lol!

This is a good story poem. I wish you well in the contest.

Joy xx

This is a very well written historically based poem about the oldest profession and the ladies who practiced it. Certainly they provided a needed service during those times, but it must have taken its toll. Thanks for the great rhyme and the notes which provide the background for the poem. It's interesting to learn new info, and even better to read it in poetry form.

This story, brilliantly told in perfect common metre and rhyme made me long for thold days of the West, and I'm a limey that never yet crossed the pond, for heaven's sake. In here was every western movie I ever watched with "The Streets of Laredo" as the background music. Oh my i could almost smell the salvating bodies were it not for the rose petal of rhyme and metre scattered here. This has made my afternoon, and i have no six stars left in the box. This is the best I can do. ****** sorry.

I think this is a good entry for the 'Share A Story In A Poem' writing prompt.
Well written and a clear story of the life of cowboys, cattle drives, and ladies of the night.
Well done and good luck to you with the competition.

A very well-written poem/story about the lovely ladies of the west who was willing to serve the cow boys and travellers at a price. Until the railway took away their business.

This is a well told story of the Old West and how the railroad and new methods of transport changed the country. Bawdy house might of closed but the profession is still alive and kicking.

Good luck in the contest.

Keep writing

Joan
