Your poem is very well written. Is there an abundance of homeless (not in shelters) in your city? From articles I've read, many homeless (especially mothers with children) are vulnerable to predators and fearful of spending nights in shelters. Therefore, they'd rather take their chances on the street. I do believe that politicians DO spend tax dollars unwisely, probably the crux of the problem. Marilyn

Yes, there is an abundance, as shown in the video... Thanks very much.

I must say we saw an extraordinary number of homeless individuals sleeping on the streets in downtown Toronto. We have a serious homeless issue in Los Angeles as well, but it typically exists in encampments on the peripheries--which to me seems to offer some "strength in numbers"--and we are actively seeking more beds in shelters. I admired your call for compassion in this rhymed sonnet--we are our brother's keeper. Sighs- Joan

Dawn, this is a very telling poem on the sadness and hardship that people are living in the world today. Homelessness is a tragic situation, especially when the weather is freezing cold. How can anyone survive that over a period of time... Your message is clear and written very effectively to allow for deeper reflection on the subject. ~DD

People only care for that almighty dollar when it comes to helping others who could use a hand out. There has to be something in it for them in order for them to give in return
. A lot of bullshit these days.

This was really very good with a great title and ending line. Love the picture-that little birdie looks pissed off! He sure is cute though. Great thoughts in this time where few care about their fellow man.

Hi Dawn, what a sad state of affairs. So many must die in the cold. Is there really no help to be had? I liked your poem a lot, but it left me sad and frustrated. All the best. Ulla:)))

Hi, Dawn

= Such an ongoing, sadly tragic situation--no matter the country/state we live in.
= Beautifully written poem, my friend.

This is a lovely piece. The rhyme and meter are lovely throughout. Hopefully one day all of the glimmers of light and compassion will bond together and illuminate the darkness of the world. Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

One night out in this weather would kill me. My feet are cold in a warm house. It was really cold last night, I could feel the chill inside. I could hear that wind whipping up. The citizens will have to make a noise before the authorities will do anything. Well said Dawn. Nancy
