I love the painting you have with this chapter :) I love paintings of ballroom dancers. This is a fascinating chapter. I'm anxious to read the next chapter where we meet the father of her albino baby. I'm curious how come he had blue eyes yet their son has red eyes.

I used to go to balls wearing long evening gowns, not quite like the ones in the picture, but still with loads of net petticoats. I still have one, black silk with ruffles all around the hem. I'll never get to wear it again, I'd have to lose loads of weight. :(( It's nice to look at and remember. Thank you, Joy, for going back to catch up. I know you haven't been well. How are you now? Big hugs, my friend. :) Sandra xxx
Many albinos' eyes change colour as they age. The red changes to ice blue, or brown. I've been researching this and it's surprising how much I've learnt about them. It must have been horrendous for children like Francis all those years ago.

Your story brings up fascinating things. I'm learning too, along with all your readers. I'm feeling better. Saturday was a huge walking day and I'm able to rest and recover during the week. I'll get back to the exercise bike to keep my hip moving. Thanks for asking :)

WOW! This was such an intriguing chapter. You do a great job of writing back story and filling out your characters. That's talent and I'm enjoying this read so much!

Such an interesting chapter to your story, Sandra. Imagine the disappointment of a bride-to-be learning that she was being married for her family's money. Well written throughout. An enjoyable read. Marilyn

Thank you so much, Marilyn. I received my copy yesterday of the first book in this series. I cried! It's been a dream of mine to hold my own novel in my hands, and now at the grand young age of 70, I have! Thank you for reading this part, my friend. I know you don't normally read prose, so an extra big thank you for that. :) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra. Congratulations. What an achievement. I understand your joy. I have been writing more prose myself. I've always written short stories, but had focused on poetry for a long time. Now I am writing and reading more prose. Marilyn

In the Victorian Age, third parties chose a young woman mate. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. There is good imagery.

G'day Cuz.
I'm so far behind it's embarrassing... sorry about that.
'You said you would tell me about Francis' father,' (Yes, I want to know as well.)
"If you want to save your son, get a grip and start helping me.' (Yep. Tell it like it is!)
'After our engagement, Randolph became more and more assertive." (Why do blokes do that? Jerks!)
" It was on one such day I overheard the maids gossiping when they didn't know I could overhear them.' " (Ah, the best source of information lol.)
"'There wasn't much the servants didn't know about the goings(-)on in the houses"
That wedding arrangement for money has to hurt. I've never had that problem lol.
Wow, now the plot thickens at the end their dear cousin. You are moving this yarn along beautifully, but, leaving me in suspense is just not fair! Lol.
Fabulous work again. You are very good at this written caper.
Cheers Fez

Bless your heart, my wonderful Cousin!! I love your reviews, they always make me smile. Your little comments are what makes your reviews stand out. Researching that era has opened my eyes. I once thought it a romantic age, but it's far from it. As some have told me on here, this still goes on today in some cultures. Thank goodness ours isn't like that. Thank you so much for the 6 stars, you put a big smile on my face as I drink my breakfast coffee. Biggest hugs, alway lots of love to you and Delia. xxxxxx Sandra

Very nice work, Sandra. I enjoyed this part of the chapter and revelation that Francis' father was not her husband.
Nothing was going to change.
I went down to breakfast and found him dressed in his best suit. --You end your paragraph with dialogue and continue it into the next. Suggest a quote mark to start the new paragraph.
Take care,
Russell

Thank you so much, Russell, I missed that, and then after dashing off to put it on, I found I'd done it again further down! All caught now, thank you! And a big hug for the lovely review, my friend. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this part!! :) sandra xxx

Ooh, Gwendolyn has met the man who apparently went on to win her heart! Yay! Randolph sounds like a real turd, though just doing the norm for those times, I suppose.
Wow, this chapter was really well written, Sandra.
You had me engrossed from start to finish.
I love how you ended it with who turns out to be Francis' father.
But we know things didn't seem to go well for Francis, so I can't wait to read the next chapter!

-This is an excellent chapter, Sandra.
-The tension builds and builds as
Gwendolyn tells her story.
-There must be something to your
ghost characters that gives them
this incredible ability to absorb
you into their story and their world.
-Of course, what would the story be
without Sir John being in control?!
-With all things in place as far as he
and Randolph were concerned, Gwendolyn
was not happy.
-After overhearing the 'almost always correct'
gossip of the servants, G. took an invigorating
walk, and then she met him--the question is
who is this disarmingly handsome man, and
how will he impact the story?!
-This is the best chapter in this book so far!

Aww, Pam, that is such a lovely review, thank you. My ghosts are always kind and gentle who have been hurt and used in some way, so Veronica has to try and find a way to help them smile all the way up to the pearly gates. Now she has to find out more about this gorgeous hunk of blond adonis. Should be fun! Thank you, my dear friend, for all those beautiful stars. I love those extras you give me, they always light my day. Biggest hugs, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

I am glad you liked the review and stars, Sandra. You are very welcome and deserving of them. Will await the next moves by Ver. or G. or a mystery character🙂

Uh oh, sounds like a love story coming on.
A stranger with the whitest hair, and beautiful ice-blue eyes.
Now what girl could resist those gentle, disarming eyes.
And Randolph, he sounds like a certain ogre named Sir John
in a recent novel I just read.
But there is another point of view,
how about poor Randolph?
forced to marry someone HE doesn't love just for her family money.
Oh the injustice of it!
Sounds like the British aristocracy
marrying American heiresses for their money.
Oh what tangled webs we weave...
And we still don't know for sure who the father is, most unfair,
but this is an excellent chapter in the saga.
Well done, my friend
Hope you are feeling better

Hi Robert, I had to giggle at your male POV! LOL. Men had a lot more freedom then women did, and in some cultures, still do today. But, now we have to learn more about this man. What has he to do with anything? And Joe? Whats happening to him? And Daveth and James and Mildred? Veronica had best be getting her finger out and start doing something! I've got a headache... Thank you so much, my friend, I'm so pleased you enjoyed this part, and a humongous hug for the beautiful stars. :) Sandra xxxx
I'm slowly getting better, it's been a long time and dragged be down. I guess as we age everything slows down. -:( Thanks for asking. :)

It's hard to imagine having to marry someone you know doesn't love you, and you've portrayed the situation really well in this chapter. It would seem women in the upper classes were manipulated by their families much more back then, and it was similar to the arranged marriages we see in certain cultures these days. I can well imagine Gwendolyn falling for someone else - even if he does have white hair! So looking forward to the next chapter, my friend.
Hugs from France,

Aww, thank you, Alexis, that is so sweet of you. I used to think those days were a romantic era, but I don't anymore. But you're right, some cultures still practice that today. How awful to be told who you have to marry! Thanks for the lovely review, my dear friend. Big hugs from England!! :) Sandra xxxx
