The poet mistrusts love because early experiences distorted love. Each of us who had a less than balanced parent of the opposite sex searches endlessly for that balance and the parental face reflects from every lover as a kind of curse...The answer is to find acceptance from within and if we are lucky from without , from another caring person. I find this poem to be intensely reflective of feeling, psychologically astute, and yet, hopeful in its outlook...
The nice part is we have the power to decide how deeply we will let these experiences affect us. The issues were theirs, not ours.
Deep poem...

What a wonderful review, Nika. Of course, you always have a unique and in depth take on things. It's most appreciated. I always am delighted to receive a review from you even though I'm totally lame about responses and the like. Just busy and buried and work. Thanks so very much. mike

This poem is the story of childhood. taking a trip down the memory lane, halts at a place where maximum tripping and stumbling happened .
There is an ominous hint that all was not well.Ther was a desire to escape but being too small the little legs could nod pedal fast enough .
mother kidnapping her own child?
'the insane have a despearate embrace' is rather harsh
"history repeats itself
it becomes grown up
so it is supposed.
I find cynicism here .But I liked the entire poem .It was a good exercise to work it out.
thanks for sharing

Thank you for sharing. It is a reflective piece, inviting connection with readers who are sure to find it. After all, who hasn't been held as a child and enjoyed it? This was a well-written and enjoyable read. The lack of mechanics does make this English teacher a little neurotic, but what's new? I see you have entered the "Free Verse Poetry Contest" and I am sure this will be a strong contender. Good luck with your contest entry!
