I used to do that at Thanksgiving but have long time stopped. I enjoy my Christmas now quietly with the cats I have and they sit as I read the Christmas story. Don't laugh, they really do.
This is very well done reminding us in the end of the blessed time as it should be

Oh Barb , I can relate to your reading the Christmas story to your cats. We have Sasha, our border collie, and I talk and read to her. Thank you for your kind review.

I am the cook in our large family and I felt a special connection to your poem. I love to cook for large numbers of people. Great job.

Your enthusiastic review is much appreciated. You must be an invaluable member of the family with your love of cooking for large numbers.

I enjoyed this one. Good rhyme and meter. I liked the fact that you talked about the difficulties in preparing for the Christmas dinner, but remembered the true meaning of Christmas at the end.

good grief! forty for dinner, and fifty potatoes! I cannot imagine. I can see that you are not a worrier - at least not over the "small stuff". Of course having potatoes ready on time for 40 people would be a big stuff to me - I'd probably be in a panic. but back to your poem - good meter, good choice of words. You convey calmness and relief to be at a small table where true thankfulness for the reason for Christmas can be felt - good message.

Thank you, pome lover, for your encouraging review. Indeed, I am relieved to have a small gathering this year. Happy Christmas to you.

That is a lot of people to entertain. Potatoes for fifty, that's like a lot even if you love potatoes. You should grill the rest of the meal.... Christmas BBQ. Lol. An open heart with loving arms is always appreciated more that what's served. God in your heart is a great thing to keep too. Merry Christmas.

Your great review is much appreciated. I relate to your feelings about the joy of celebrating being more important than the fare.

Each time I read the last verse, which is may favorite, I find it easier to read 'I tried to convince her that all will be fine.'
The whole poem made me smile. Such a familiar scenario of panic when you play hostess and indeed, it always turns out right.
Nice one there so thank you.

Thank you for reading, and re-reading my poem and for a great review. I have yet to find out whether all will be fine for my friend who lives far away from me.

That's a lot of potatoes! This reminds me of my late Grandfather, in that he figured 3 potatoes for each guest. Gram ended up making a huge pot of mashed potatoes. I think Grandpa liked to have them the next day. Very nice rhyme and flow to the poem.

Your enthusiastic review is much appreciated. Your Gram sounds as though she was a resourceful cook. I rarely have to throw away leftovers, always make a plan.

The potatoes in the pictures look delicious. I think roasted are better than baked - not so dry. I cooked crockpot potatoes for Thanksgiving.
Good luck in the contest.

These fried potatoes look so good that I could not pass up your poem for a review. Your poem brought back many memories of hectic holiday cooking. it is crazy and stressful and your poem reflects this:
"For the one oven has limited space
And time involved is like running a race."
I can tell you stories about holiday meal mishaps, but I enjoy savoring yours. Thank you for sharing your delicious, well rhymed poem. I wish you success in the contest.

Your detailed, warm review gives me great pleasure. Thank you. More memories come floating back to me too. Once, in a tiny kitchen , when I was preparing a Christmas meal for six (on,y six) two guests came into the confined space to have a chat. I was hard put to be full of Christmas cheer as I avoided tripping over their feet. Eventually they got the message.
