I had thoughts of an Aussie song - He was only 19 - when I started reading this one mikey. That always brings tears to the eyes and was also about the Vietnam War.This tells me I'm a few years older than you were at this time, but who's counting. This was an interesting topic to think back on, good job with the write and the topic.
cheers,
valda

Michael,

You did a great job with the prompt. I really like how you expressed your feelings about several of the lines from that great song. The music from the time you speak of meant so much to so many. Plus it had real notes & words & made sense. What an inspiration for you.

Homeward Bound is a haunting song in my opinion. Having read about your life here on FS, I can understand why hearing it makes you feel as you do. When a Man Loves a Woman is another influential song. Again from your writing here [no judgment intended], I can tell how that would affect you.

You are a great musician from what I gather from your writing.

Take care & thanks for sharing. Jan

Mikey: I had to read this twice. I saw your song and it clicked. Yes, terror and war back then and now. Signs say what we feel. Some picket for higher wages like nurses at a hospital. Others, speak up and say no more abuse. Who is listening? The debates and politics are being picked apart by both parties as the countdown for our vote happens. Everybody is looking, listening and praying.

Great challenge. Thanks for hosting! I wrote "flashback." flylikeaneagle

I'm sixty-two and lived through Vietnam. I lost more than one friend I graduated from high school with. You are correct, not a lot has changed. Just the names have changed.

That was my favorite song growing up--I was very young when it came out. Okay, I was a one-year-old infant. LOL, but I still love that song! Neil Young used to be part of Buffalo Springfield--I love both of them! Maybe I was born too late.
I'll submit mine tomorrow--I submitted twice today and filled that quota! Take care and it's good to talk to you :)

Love this song. I am more of a zep girl. Ha! I can`t write to save my life, but this seems like fun. Great look at you growing up and the michael I remember. There were a lot of kids totally for the war now that you mention it. We forget that. NG

What an interesting memoir.

I was married with children during the Viet Nam War. My husband was in the Navy. So many of my friends and family served, and some were killed or horribly maimed.

Don't laugh. The songs that bring memories to me are mostly the 1900s to 1940s. I was raised with a grandmother and several great-aunts.

I must get busy on my memoir. Time slipped away from me. 8-)

I've always loved that song. I was in college during the Vietnam War. My best friend's fiance was killed in the war. Lots of hootenannys around campus. I played the guitar so I was busy. :)

A very well written piece and a great song to chose for this piece. Your words were well written and flowed well together. the piece moves right along from beginning to end . The message comes through very clear.
