Hello Linda. Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it. Yeah, the big change in how the prize money is divided has a lot of members really peeved off. I think a few members are seriously thinking about dropping out because of it (including myself). The contests are the only reason I joined Fanstory nearly 8 years ago. Basically, for a winter hobby. I write only for fun and the competition. Whenever I won a contest, I would use the "full" pot to promote my work and join other contests because I never was a big reviewer. Thanks again my friend and keep writing. You've really been turning out some great poems. I'm going to have to start calling you "Adewpearl." Take care my friend. Bill

Thanks Susanne for your review and opinion. I think you're the first member that's been here several years who agrees with the splitting. The large majority of long term members agree that we should keep the second and third place ribbons, but that the winner should take all the prize money. For example, in this contest that we both entered, there were 10 winners out of 16 entries. That means 10 of us splits a pot of $80.00. In my opinion, that's just ridiculous. This meets the contest requirements nicely with a correct line and syllable format. It is obviously a widespread peeve throughout the site. I think there are two ways to look at it as before really good work walked away with zero for the effort simply because they lost out to a more popular writer - so in that way it levels the playing field some as more folks get something. I simply have no opinion one way or the other at this point since I can see both sides and neither is completely wrong or right. I am willing to rely on Tom's judgement as to what makes the contest experience best for the majority. I wish you all the best in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

Thank you for your review and opinion about this matter. However, nearly all member sponsored and site daily writing prompts are announced "blind." Therefore, no one knows the authors of each entry. Unless you really want to dig for that information.

I think this matter mainly bothers the long term members. I've been here for 8 years and the old system is what we've become accustomed too. For those of us that do "very little" reviewing, the full contest prize of $90.00 could be used to promote several other pieces or join many more contests.

Keep the second and third place ribbons, but in my opinion, the winner should take the full prize money. As it has been since the site opened. I saw a contest recently that had 9 entries in it and the voting booth had just closed. "All" 9 entries were winners! 2 tied for first, 4 tied for second and 3 tied for third. That means 9 people split a $45.00 pot. That's just ridiculous...

Thanks Jan, I appreciate your comments. We have to keep pushing this subject every chance we get or else it will just be forgotten. The way it is now is ridiculous. I recently saw a finished contest that had 8 entries in it and all 8 were winners! The only time I enter a contest anymore is to rant about this subject. Have a great day my friend...

Thanks G-man for your comments, I appreciate it. Yes, you're right about the number of contests still happening. However, I've been here for several years and every time I visit the voting booths that have just closed, I only recognize one or two names. So, in my opinion, probably about 90 % of the contestants are new members. We can't abandon this matter. I say that not knowing whether you are for or against it. Either way, I'm going to get my 2 cents worth in whenever I can. Have a good day my friend...
