A strong argument for what is coming or being pushed extremely quickly into the forefront. Time to discuss, hear both sides is being ignored and only a small percentage of people seem to have a voice.

Although I voted for Obama, I believe he is focusing on the wrong topic. Is he really leaving his Presidency as a defender of the LGBT community ( which does need defending by people who see them as deviants). But what about the poor, voting rights and minorities are those topic not important or too hot to handle with a congress that doesn't want to work with him.

I'm not naïve enough to believe transgender people just started using bathrooms and locker rooms in 2016, but I do believe further talk and respect for both sides of the issue is in order.

Your article isn't offensive, you bring up valid points. We need to put a bag off sand on this slippery ride so we can stop and make sure people on both side of this issue is heard.

This is a great piece of writing you stated your points without putting anyone down. You could back up your points too that was a nice touch.

I agreed with you. I see freedom of speech under attack here on fanstory. It is very scary.

Hello,

Summary: The author's political commentary is about his constitutional right of speech, a law that Obama and minorities are threatening.

Based on --What the F@#K!-- He presents president Obama as a 'lord or/and master' who fights for basic human rights of the minority, in this case, LGBT community.

His outraged is about the ''Mississippi and North Carolina passed laws that the LGBT community - have the right to have unisex bathrooms and gender pronouns''

He has two main concerns:

(1) being high jacked by extremists who protect minorities (LGBT) to seize power,

(2) Obama will rewrite the Constitution of the United States of America or ignore laws.

review:

technically - the author covered his point somewhat clearly and he expressed himself and his ideas well to prove his point thus I give him a 5-star ranking.

personally - I think the ideas expressed in this commentary are based on bigotry and prejudice against gay people and minorities in general.

As a believer of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights and Equal Rights Amendments, I am an advocate of human rights for ALL PEOPLE and I take offense with this kind of narrow-minded commentaries based on prejudice against the ones they deemed to be 'not worthy of basic human rights', like right to privacy and respect, the undesirable who are different than they are.

Freedom of speech is an important human right but when it is used to hurt and belittle one person or a whole community or race, that is when it makes me mad.

His whole outrage is based on gay people asking for the right to be recognized as the unique individuals AND to have dignity, privacy, and protection from abuse in a place as private and necessary as a non-intrusive and safe bathroom.

Put yourself in their shoes for one second. How would you like it if it was you?

What is the big deal about a pronoun and unisex bathroom? Is it A THREAT to the USA and our way of life? Really? A pronoun and a bathroom?

What were gay people thinking when they asked for human rights and equality? Next thing you know, they will be asking for freedom of speech.

How is that for my FREEDOM OF SPEECH?

I will honor your request, but you misunderstand me. I have nothing against everyone being equal under the law, or people living as they choose. My purpose was only to warn people about those in government who would use issues to divide and conquer all the people bit by bit.

This is really scary. Part of the problem is that the young people who are voting and making decisions now have never known freedom like most older people have. They don't know what they're throwing away. My husband and I have discussed these problems and have come to many of the same conclusions that you have.

I wish I didn't need to agree with you........... I am grateful though it's Obama's last term unless Sanders or Clinton get elected ......... they will only follow this road...... God bless America and our freedom.

Hi there,

You put your case forward well here drawing on the underlying issues rather than the surface actions. Frankly I have no problem with gender neutral locker rooms. We've had that in the UK for years at swimming pools and the like. Disabled toilets are also gender neutral. Fast food places frequently have gender neutral toilets, but again I think your point is the legislation of such things rather than the events themselves.

This post reminded me of the old adage - 'the road to Hell is paved with good intentions'- with political correctness gone mad.

I can see, especially in the States where the erosion of the written constitution is worrying.

Good piece

Thank you very much, but what do you think of the Mayor's new law?
reply by giraffmang on 20-May-2016
I think the use of malicious intent is the important factor in there and it being proven - a very difficult thing to do. The idea of a huge fine for calling someone by the wrong title I find a bit absurd to be honest. Again it's the legislating of it rather than guidelines or suggestions that is the worry, as you rightly pointed out in the piece itself. Courtesy is one thing, but forcible co-ordination of the agenda is something else.

Lance, this is an important post! I'm so glad you wrote it and I read it. I honestly had not seen it as an assault against freedom of speech, but damned if it isn't right there. By the way, if what was in bold print was the actual PRINTED statement by Mayor Bill De Blasio, it is his grammar I am correcting, not yours.

Damn but this is some good stuff. Content-wise this is worthy of a six I don't have. Sorry.
so does those who dissent. [... So DO those >> THOSE being plural.]

This is my and others second concern; [MINE and OTHERS' (possessive plural) concern.]

must use an individuals' preferred gender pronouns [AN individual's (singular possessive) preferred gender PRONOUN >> The individual would not have more than ONE preferred gender pronoun.]

Lance-
I really enjoy the way you present issues. In this day of coddling poor emotionally sensitive college students with safe spaces during finals, our society has a tendency to blind themselves to the difference between tolerance, and completely overboard obeisance to the absurd.
You state your points matter-of-factly , without the vituperous attacks that so many seem compelled to employ. Amen, Sir.

Points well taken. I wonder... how does one get punished for intent. I know, I know ... use the Salem Mass example. Those boys knew how to test for witches...Tie the witch up and chunk 'em into the river and if they floated they were witches: if they were not witches they sunk... damn good test if you ask me. New York could to do the witch test. If some guy with a beard and a penis walks into the woman's sauna and despite the erection spearing out in front, he claims he is really a lady trapped in a male body and plops drown next to Mabel in the hot tub and if someone challenges his declaration, they can be arrested and fined.
What a country!

I really do not give a hoot about a person's sexual orientation...gay, straight and any other name, just treat people as people and forget the rest. Now we have to debate about where we might take a dump.
Think this posting is well written and timely..
