Worth five stars simply by mentioning America's pastime and to H... with the Cowboys.
Being from Jersey, as I was once upon in Trenton from '50 - '6, how many of the following ball games did you play?
Stick ball
Wall ball
Wire ball
Step ball
H.R. derby with a whiffle ball
Any others I missed?
God, I loved those days.

Wow. Haven?t thought of these in some time.Thanks.
I played all except wire ball. Not familiar with that one.
Whiffle ball was the best.

Wire ball. We would toss a ball toward the skies where a half dozen power lines
lied (rhyming) and if you nicked one and the opposition did not catch the ball it was a home run. Everything else was an out, similar to home run derby using whiffle balls with hr's going over the house.

Gotta like someone who does things their own way.
Sounds like a whole lot of fun with all these sports.
Baseball being very popular among them with spectators.

Thanks for going way back into my archives. I?m working on a current baseball story and other things as well.

Enjoyed your "Dribble Fiction" (I think that's what they call 50 words or less). Don't they usually say, "Bottom of the ninth"? It sounds like a fun whiffle baseball game. But I'd like to skip mosquitoes, please.

Well done with this short one, so few words yet there is good imagery. Baseball does say summer is coming. Thank you for sharing. RJ

Hi, Karyn. Good to hear from you. I'm glad you liked this short little diddy.
I wrote it and kept cutting away at it.
Is it a little like free verse or am I smoking the wacky stuff?
Just wondering.
Thanks again. John

With poetic formatting, using a few poetic devices, and changes in punctuation, it could read like a free verse, sure.

Short, yes, and very sweet. I can just smell the fresh cut grass. You provided everything a reader needs to be placed in the summertime environment. Thanks for the breath of fresh air! ;)

Nice one, John. Short and to the point but still provides great imagery of what summer is all about.
Love the pic as well. :-)

Dear IMDG,
Even though you say you don't write poetry this post is an excellent free-verse poem. A vivid portrait painted with so few words. Yeah, let the good times roll.
Warm regards,
Winslow

I don't think of it as poetry. I don't know much about poetry, so maybe I should give free verse a try?
Thanks for a great review and encouraging words. John

Ah, how the Wiffle ball danced. But if you smacked it just right, it would travel.
We were lucky to have three to side, so there wasn't a lot of defense. But we played everyday.
On a windy day, that Wiffle ball would do loop-de-loops. As we got older, we switched to Wiffle golf balls, and played Home Run Derby. A lot less running.
Thanks for the memories.
Peace, Lee

We used to play wiffle ball on one particular corner. Perfect spot. Great game, lots of fun!
Thanks Lee, for reading and sharing.

I never played baseball of wiffle ball or whatever it's call nowadays but we did play in the back yard. It's nice to have those memories to look back on. Everyone should have them but not all of us do. That is the sad part of life. Great job with this
