Fascinated to read your story, Aussie. You have travelled far and sometimes on rough ground. One of the ladies who agists horses with us helps out with Riding for the Disabled. We had one of their horses here for a time last year, a great brute a a beast. You needed a ladder to mount him! A lovely horse though!

I knew you had an interesting life from your writings and your responses to mine. What I didn't know is how wonderfully honest you can be in your presentation of who you are. I read your story and pictured it all. Marrying to get out of the house. Being a friend instead of a wife to a man who needed you but who you did not need. Your wonderful gift of art. You dogs and cat. The woman who you thought cared for you only to hurt you so much when you became disabled. I treasured all of it. You write so beautifully which makes me know how intelligent you are because school wasn't treasured by you. Therefore you had to learn things on your own. I hope you are not in too much pain today. You've surely got a winner here, Kay, even though it needs some editing.
You brought back a lot of good memories for me, speaking of the corner shops and the local greengrocer. I remember them well, from the late '50s (buying snacks and lime colas from the milk bar across from my school, and going to the greengrocer with Mom and Dad every Saturday). I was disappointed to see them being replaced by bigger stores, etc., in the '70s and even more so in 2000.
I also have several pictures of the lineup of veggies and the meter-long chocolate bars, etc. in the Coles Supermarket Fred and I frequented in 2000!
You didn't even throw me off with words like "singlets." My mom talked my dad into wearing one to work because of the rainy weather and because the Caterpillar building was so cold!
And, as for the Hawkesbury River, Fred and I crossed it every day, by train, on our way to the Olympics in 2000.

Well written, without self pity, just as it was. And you have achieved so much... my admiration for you has escalated beyond words.
Just a couple of small observations:
Dr and Drs - spell out doctor and doctors
the D'aguilar ranges. Ranges (Capital R)
short and curly's. curlies
Only tiny things. Good luck in the contest and warmest regards, from a Tasmanian who had to look up where the D'aguilar Ranges are!
