I'm sorry to say that this essay strikes me as a lot of rambling that contains very few significant insights into the nature of intelligence - artificial or otherwise. A great many philosophical claims are made, but they are not supported by any substantial explanatory exposition or logical argumentation. This lack of rigor stems from the essay's core problem: It tried to accomplish so much that it ends up accomplishing nothing of value. It ends up being nothing beyond a rambling rant of seemingly disconnected personal opinions. One gets the impression that a central theme is meant to tie all of these opinions together but, if there is such a theme, it gets lost in the shotgun blast of fancy-sounding verbiage that creates much ado about practically nothing. If there is a central theme, then every sentence of the essay needs to be evaluated in terms of its contribution to the theme. Everything that does not contribute to the theme needs to be discarded and then, perhaps, something of value will emerge. (BTW, I have advanced degrees in philosophy, I'm well-versed in science, and I've done computer programming, so the problem is not that the concepts are beyond my academic reach but, rather, I understand the concepts so well that I can clearly see where you have overstepped your writing abilities. I'm sorry I've been so mean in this response, but you deserve an honest appraisal. You'll get better mileage by focusing your efforts on a core theme.)

I do see and like how you wrote this in a casual conversational tone, and you went out of your way to make it relatable with common points of reference.
I can't say I agree with your idea of intelligence and all, but you do write and make a compelling argument.

There are no inventions, only discoveries. This is monumental and could easily be the title. I found this to be a very engaging read. Even with all the techno talk I found it to be understandable as well which was quite a feat. Excellent work. No edits or adjustments to suggest.

in 1979 I was working as a computer operator, on a dare I learned to program in what is known as Common Business Oriented language (COBOL). My first lesson was that the computer will do exactly what you tell it to do. If you are not clear or do not understand how to do this, you will be embarrassed by the outcome. The programmer's ego is bruised when the computer does what he tells it to do instead of doing what he wants it to do.

I like this sentence: "We experience existence to evolve our understanding of the Universe we discern." All developments have gone through a lot in our universe.

I cannot read fiction and your non-fiction is a breath of fresh air. The trouble with fiction, for me is it is like reading someone else's imagination. I have trouble dealing with my own.
