Comment from Joan E.
My nephew is a professional skateboarder and at 37, I wonder when "sudden spills" might end his career. But as your 5-7-5-7-7 poem points out--he "keeps rolling on". More smiles- Joan

Thank you Joan. You never know when a spill might. My son, Sean pretty well trashed his knees skateboarding.

I'm sorry--I hope he won't have to deal with lifelong pain. Stephan Janosky, my nephew, has been especially lucky, but I don't know how much longer he can keep pushing his body. Sighs- Joan
Comment from Nottoway
Well done.
The few times I have watch skateboarders developing their skills, I cringe at the dangerous endeavor they undertake. And I wish this old body could attempt just a few of those runs!!!!!!
But, alas, my sensibilities prevail. I resign myself to remember some of the ridiculous things I did many years ago!

Comment from I am Cat
Is that you on the ramp, Tom? ;)
I used to be a skateboarder, (back before they became popular) and then, I was a rollerblader before they became popular... then I lost my balance, LOL (I grew boobs at the age of 40... wth?) lol
Yeah, so I stopped skating, I think I was about 42... But I loved it. Skating, of all kinds. ;) I was a girl on wheels. ;)
anyway, I enjoyed your photo, and your poem, thanks for sharing, some of these kids are certainly daredevils. ;)

Thank you Cat. Nope, not me , just some random kids. My wheels were on a bicycle.
Comment from Pantygynt
This is a splendidly succinct comment on this sport that has become so popular it seems on both sides of the pond. Apparently the skills required are similar to those needed for surfing and the skateboard was designed originally for out of season practice. I don't know how correct that is.

Thank you Pantygynt. I believe you are correct in the surf boarding development scenario. But then the proponents discovered jumps, and slides and flips that you can't do with a surfboard. Plush its is a cheap sport.

Our town just got new skateboard/bmx equipment at our skateboard park. I wish I were younger, I'd give it a try.
Fun poem.

Very well done work here with a perfect picture. This is cleverly delivered and while brief by intention and structure, demonstrates the intended poetic style offered by this gifted poet and teacher. No suggestion on improving this! HIS GRAYNESS

I've seen them fall too, it makes me cringe. They usually get right up though. Yes, you've penned an American structure here, but it's an appealing poem - the best go rolling on. They surely do- little punks! (just kidding)

Comment from Marykelly
Skate boarding is a very demanding sport and in a few words you get to the heart of how to do it and why it can hurt. The form you chose is well suited for the quick snapshot that says a lot.

A well written poem, I remember my two boys coming home with bleeding knees on a regular basis. But they always go skate again.
