I have never had the pleasure of reading a poem like this. I am glad this one was my introduction. It is very well done. II love Hot Air Balloons also. I am not sure I would ride in one, but I love to watch them. Your poem described the world off ballooning so vividly. Thank you.

Treiscel: I like the hot air balloon. I helped in the arena with these balloons, up close, in Dallas, Texas. They came in all shapes, including a cow. Nice poem. Glad you made the cut. Keep warm with the snow coming up next week, from Denver to us in Minnesota. I got the tator tot hotdish and chilli planned for next week, come on over! flylikeaneagle

Your short poem is concise and I enjoyed reading it. It flows well and good alliteration of words we who want. Your artwork choice is interesting.

You must not have read the author's notes, as this was not a short poem at all. In fact, it's a long one, written in several styles. The strange image is composed by the words of the poem itself. Not trying to be argumentative here. Just pointing out that if you didn't read the notes, you missed the whole thing.

For the work to make this picture
Deserves the stars that are richer
For the poem that reads well
When stretched and explained below
Too bad the poem could not be read
Well as first constructed here
But the picture is a poetic tribute
To the balloons that fly so gracefully

WOW - what an amazing undertaking!
All of it is uplifting and gorgeous, but my favorite tile
in this mosaic was:
The basket has an abab rhymed quatrain that reads:
Even as the air is weighted down,
My spirit is lifted high.
By steam within a colored canvas gown,
As heat pushes us up to the sky.
Bravo! - Well done!!! :-)

This kind of thing is way beyond me! Somewhere between a crossword and a poem. It must look quite spectacular in the original. I am in awe!
I'm a much greater fan of hot air balloons when I'm not inside them! They look wonderful from the ground, especially when they rise en masse on a misty morning.

Tom,
Well, I can see what you've been doing lately! Been hard at work creating these amazing poems! I didn't know the word 'Calligram' until today - and you. I love the way you always manage to TEACH in your poetry! KUDOS!
Would you believe that out of all your beautiful composition the line that spoke to my heart the very most was:
'Flying high in my beautiful hot air balloon. Bye-bye.'

Styank you Robyn. Really. I wouldn't have guessed it, but maybe because it's the only one you can read. Lol.
Comment from Joan E.
I knew you couldn't create just one of these complex Calligrams! Thank you again for printing out the poem, so that we could savor each one of the forms you wove into it--amazing! Your "dragon's jaw' was an especially striking metaphor and your rhymes and shapes lifted our spirits very high. Big cheers--you have outdone yourself!! -Joan

A very creative poem and very well presented. Hot air balloons are amazing and colorful. We don't see them often here, but when we do it is always a great attraction.

This was quite the lofty flight of much enjoyment feeling your inborn excitement in what you beheld hanging among the clouds in true weightless mid-heavens grasp, even to paint the colors so free complementing the spirit within your breaths you held long in duration from the flight you took while watching those balloons sailing bye you home as the sight of them elevated the rhythm of your beating heart by pronouncing you pilot for a day....A true most enjoyable read Treischel and yes I too know the land of colorful Colorado Springs....Cranial Thinker
