I like the way in which you reflect the true nature of the elk with that of the elk club. My uncle was an Elk. But I think he was just in it for the beer.

Thank you ravenblack. I think most were.

This poem truly celebrates the Elk and the defiance of bar closing rules. I can see the connection. I suppose if one drinks too much, one might mistake an Elk for a Moose. Well done, Tom.

Thank you rod. I understand in Europe, they are called moose.

Great poem, Tom. The Elks and the elks. I had an opportunity to observe elks, in the rutting season, at very close range in Yellowstone National Park. The males "bugle" their call to the females. Very impressive, beautiful animals.
I love the format of this poem. Visually attractive and fun to read. Well done, Tom!

The Elks do a lot of good things for people. Truly a unique experience, and probably one you thoroughly enjoyed, especially after finding out the meaning of the statue. Well written poem paying homage to Elks, and to elks. Well done.

Thanks quite an interesting research.

This is fascinating; both the form and the history of the society. I love the way that each half of the poem is devoted specifically to one meaning, the animal first and the boozers second. A good smile for a Monday morning.

Thank you Pantygynt. I saw the contest and thought I'd try one. Worked hard a getting the edges smooth. The other ones I saw, look like a mess to me.

A beautiful photo that complements your poem perfectly. It is a double Etheree, dot on syllable count. Nice subject about this elk you saw in Germany. Thanks for sharing this nice poem.

Great poetry expertly done. I also love the story behind the poem. What would we do without Google, my children taught me to google, as soon as I say "I wonder ...." Their reaction is "Google it." Lol.

Comments: I liked the concept here of the two part Etheree one for the mammal and the other for the organisation. The description of the Elk is very good considering the discipline of the poetic form of the Etheree. The same applies for the second half although without the authors notes I was quite confused by the poem. After reading the notes all became clear. I gave the poem five stars.

Thank you again, Vance. It was a fun piece to write. I saw the contest, but was too late to enter. Unlike the others who wrote, i spent a great deal of time and thought getting those edges as smooth as possible.
