This has to be an exciting and nerve racking time for these young players. It is certainly teaching them how to deal with stress at a young age, but hopefully also how to have fun at the same time.

You write about baseball and Little League quite often. Are you a coach? You certainly seem to enjoy the sport.

This is a well written article. Have you considered submitting it to you local paper?

Thank you so very much, Debbie. I'm 60, so I don't coach now, until my grand kids get older...

I coached with my two boys for years, but I can quite honestly say, coaching my daughters softball team for three years was the most fun! They were so competitive, yet soft and vulnerable, an amazing time.

Look for more on this story.
    Thanks again, John

I'm not a baseball fan but I'm sure there are people who love baseball like I love football. You did a great job with this and as I was reading this I could actually picture everything happen. Great, great job

Love how you generate excitement in your opening paragraph, John. Your language is descriptive, clean and lean making it run at the pace of a game.

The boys' dialogue works really well showing the tension and nerves.

Excellent story, John. I'm so pleased to read another of your fine baseball stories and for that, you get my last six of the week. :)

My grandsons played little league and I loved watching them. I don't think we were ever in Little League World Series. This is written with much anticipation before the game begins. I was waiting for more! I loved Jeffrey's enthusiasm and Billy's story. :>) Miss Sally

Great story, John. The hopes and dreams of these kids, that played sports at a young age really makes me wonder about identity. My daughter was a swimmer. She did double practices most of her young life, and was an All American State Swimmer. And remember the endless swim meets and championships. In her down days, as she is bi-polar, she still identifies herself as that athlete, So I really appreciate your story. Once again, you really need to shorten your sentences. Too many are run on, and it really takes away from the "punch" of you story.

This takes me back to all the years my son played Little League. They never made it to Williamsport, but won a lot of tournaments during All Stars.
A well written piece! I could almost smell the popcorn!

John, I was all ready for the game ...
You did a wonderful job showing us how important Little League is to so many boys. I didn't know that it went all the way to International competition.
Your characters are very true to life: An encouraging coach and boys that are nervous, but will try their very best.

This seems like you're building up for a book. You're building your characters nice and slow, the way they should be. I love the speech that Billy was giving. Loved your background on the little league world series. It didn't seem overdone, just enough to give the setup. And that's what this felt like, a setup/background story chapter to a book.

'placed in (their) respective first'

A very interesting baseball story that I would love to read more of.

Thank you, Michael. I do want to continue with this, I just hope time allows.

I took care of the "their". Much appreciated. John

I love baseball, at every level. But, the young ones play with their hearts. My boys played but not passed park ball. This is a lovely reminder for me of those days as team Mom... Hiding my eyes as my child came to bat. Lol
Loved it!
Always,
Missy

My wife did the same at times when our son came up in a big spot.

This story engaged me. You paint well the preparations for the big game. You crafted an ornate series of details that puts the reader right at the ballgame. Your story is also unusual by focusing on what happens before the game instead of during the game. This creates excitement and anticipation. Your cliffhanger ending surprised me. Thank you for sharing.
