Dear Michael,

I can only give you a six for such an in depth and soulful write. Poems are a high voltage language which concentrates on being able to compress the thoughts of human interaction/ behaviors/ experiences, perceptions/ emotions/ or the crux ..... the true paradigms of our souls, of our lives, the map of our territories, as we, and only we , as unique individuals perceive it. I will try to breakdown and assess each stanza as I perceive it.

easy feels lite heavy let down
numb to mercy just before dumb
paper airplanes explain elephants in rooms

this is a brilliant opening. The ultimate observation is, in a world gone awry, we do become desensitized, we do become numb to the machinations of each and every day happenstance. Most often the "elephant in the room" does become like paper airplanes. We ignore the weight of the what is before us, therefore we become numb to anything that can is presented as harsh reality. A human defense mechanism

human found empty...
moves purposed as who cares
wallows where every winners come and gone

WE ARE TRULY not empty, but desensitized, which is not s proper word to describe the humanness of shutdown. It is opur defense mechanism.

stale booze hung around
God forbidden caramelized
sure as every details watchful eyes witness

We often question the purpose our God has for such actions among the the human race. We witness, yet we cannot comprehend it's purpose. Yet it's purpose might escape our paradigm, because we weight thing and judge things on our own references in life's lessons/

blues play yellows distant memory left alive
sun setting everyday darker than the last wooden stake wished for
some other blood sucked unrighteous burned to death acceptance

the world's craziness and WE becoming desensitized and loss of dreams. One knows when we lose our dreams we have no hope. The scriptures say this is a sign of end times.

zeros equivalence except radiance blinds
all wise in an instance pass by oh my life shines
she said listening...

Most interesting, a guru?. Wisdom is something attained by desire and due diligence. Due diligence and the desire to be the best you can be.. my Grandmother Emma.. wink..

risk changing everything
moistened lips smiling a whispers scream
love says you're worthy

Yes, risk does change everything. Wisdom gives us the courage and the bravery to stand and go forward, when all the naysayers scream impossible. But you know know, you knpw, deep into your driven soul what the true impetus of the driving force of life is... "love does say your are worthy.

I love this work not as much as I love you, but as a part of you and your heart.

I love you dearly my sweet and gentle, sensitive friend. We have a connection. I will forever cherish.

Love Jimi

Incredible piece of work! From the title and picture to the last stanza mirroring the first and all the content in between, you created a masterpiece! I really had to put my "head in the game" to soak in all the messages in your thoughtful and insightful poem. I'm inferring that my interpretation is not the same as yours, but that's the beauty of your poem, it can easily mean different things to different people. To me, the paper airplanes and elephants in the room remind me of our family meetings when the kids would try to distract the adults from bringing up the main topic at hand. The stale booze stanza was my experiences at fraternity houses (always smelling of beer) the God forbidden behavior (spending the night with my boyfriend before marriage) and the watchful eye witness (my sorority mother's look when I came home dressed in last night's party clothes). Your whole poem brings back memories like that. Once again, maybe not what you intended, but extremely resonating!

By the way: reading your bio, I noticed that you are from Michigan and Texas, and so am I! We just returned to Dallas from a road trip to Grand Rapids to visit my dad. Connection! :)

You are definitely a poet at heart with a gift!
Amy

Well, Mike, you have me reeling again but that's a state not unknown to me. As I try to make sense I can't so I just let it flow and that's fine. After all, I've been there.
