Started with doctor but the content very different. I was enthralled in the beginning- our own borders in Australia are under threat. Yet I felt the class became a little boring. Think it needed a climax with more oomph! with Mike cut in could have a dash instead if a full stop. On the whole well written and the dialogue realistic. Well done!

What an excellent story. It is thought provoking and raises many questions you don't think about when watching the news on tv tonight. Best of luck in the contest. Thanks for no SPAG to distract from the story, too.

Hey there, Lance. I admire how you never shy away from controversial subjects. That takes guts.

You did a stellar job of opening up the discussion without bombarding from one side or the other. Kind of a dialectical thing, I think they call it.

As far as the subject, geez, what's the answer? I see the argument on both sides. How do you turn kids away? But there's something to be said about maintaining territorial integrity. Every country does it.

Your essay helps open this issue up for discussion, unlike others that only see things from their own side.

I'm not sure I'll enter the contest after seeing this.

Keep up the good work, Lance.

Great topic for this sentence starts the story essay. It was relevant and the dialogues were realistic too. It is a complicated topic and your details bringthat out.

What a great commentary, offered in a creative way - within a classroom.

What I liked was that the teacher had no easy answers. This is not a simple "yes" or "no" issue and you did an admirable job showing the shades of gray. You clearly showed that the best way to have this kind of debate is through open communication. Well done.

I want Dr. Strauss to be my teacher!

This is a well thought out, exceptional organized complex issue.

I'm on the side of Gloria,""I still don't see the harm. Some of those people are hard workers and refugees from terrible places. This is one world for all people. Borders are like segregation in the south. They are morally wrong."

One hundred years old Italians, Greeks, Polish and other European nationalities came to this country. Yes, they came legally but they came because America said claims it's a land for all. For all to make their dreams come true. Today, these immigrants what the same thing. The hatred of them is deeply based in racism. Which I was surprise this wasn't brought up in the lesson. Would congress be in an uproar, or the news media saying we need A comprehensive immigration reform plan if the people crossing were Polish or even Canadian?

Hi I am so sorry I cannot read your whole story, due to my eye sight, I have a bad day today. It seems a great story about immigrants, as I am one of them, I do feel with them. From what I read, well done to write it down. Hugs Terry xoxo

Excellent, you have raised some valid points and caused us all to question what is the right thing to do. I still don't know what the answer is, but I do worry for all the children. I would hate to see them sent back, it is such a dangerous place.

This is such an excellent presentation, I'm going with six stars. You had a creative approach to the prompt. Great discussion with the students. I really liked the example Strauss gave about the family that took in the immigrant family, with unintended consequence. The teacher has the students thinking of different ways of looking at the immigration problem. He also allows the students to express their thoughts, and they are representative of the different arguments that we hear. That sounds like a tough homework assignment, when even out esteemed leaders haven't arrived at a solution. Excellent! judi

This is excellent and you did a great job pointing out the pros and cons to this problem. Both have a great point. Good luck with the contest.

Strauss nodded for her to continue. "It is too hard to come here legally, and many people know (comma after continue)
