Some people do leave the flag up year round through all sorts of weather. Still, the American Flag is quite beautiful. It was Flag Day this past Saturday. Nice work.

I love the double meaning of the line "drips with history". The flag and what it represents has a lot of history, and the rain soaking it also makes it drip. Excellent imagery in a few concise words. I think you did an wonderful job.

Well put, gretchen. A nation's flag under the rain can indeed dripsand splash gret--or bad--history.
If we put super patriotism aside, we must admit there's much in America's hisotry that fails to honor the flag. And of course by extension many of us individuals fail to live up to what we pledge to the flag or the claims we make.
It's a good thing our flag is only a symnbol. It's not a relic for bsuperstiution or worship.

Interesting poem as you approach Independence Day. Plenty of history to think about as another July 4th approaches. Our PM is about to meet your president. Be interesting to see how their meeting goes being on opposite sides politically ours is more Right wing Pres Obama is more Left.
But America and Australia have been allies working together for a long, long time.

Wow! That is a meaningful Haiku or senryu or pickaboo, or any other...
Mainly, it's short, salient and crammed with emotional meaning.
Great job, Gretchen.

Interesting observation/insight. I really liked this a lot but was somewhat jarred by the word "drips". I know what ou meant, but it doesn't feel like quite the right word. Great picture, too! Caroline

Hi Gretchen,
I really like this. Such a beautiful photo to go with it. The title is 'perfect' too. Indeed, the flag drips in history.
Well done. Good luck in the contest.
Cheers,

Wow! I thought it was fantastic. I just love what it says but as for the 5-7-5 - your form looks perfect to me and your syllable count is correct.

I love the haiku format and use use it very well in this piece. The flag dripping with history conveys so much in so few words. The attached picture is beautiful and a perfect addition to the written words. Well done.
