I have to give you a high-five for this... the tribute, the music, the picture of a great white shark, and the deserving reference to one of my all-time favourite movies, "Jaws". I went to see it by myself when it was released in 1975, the same year I got married. They gave my fiance a shower that evening, so I had nothing to do. And she refused to go and see it with me.
The Dip should enjoy this poem too. What a great send-off! I can tell you one thing, you'll never find me anywhere near Australia. What am I saying? Thirty-three Great White sightings have been confirmed in the Bay of Fundy since 1874. A 9-foot Great White was caught by fisherman Wayne Linkletter near Economy, Nova Scotia, in August of 2011.
JAWS affected me so bad that, even when I'm swimming at the cottage on the Washdemoak, a lake in the Saint John River system (which flows into the Bay of Fundy), I never go out very far. I float around near the shore. Believe it or not. Sharks eat seals, and we had a seal on our raft a couple of years ago.
I like the alliteration of "dear old doctor dip".
My favourite lines,
"A man of the sea, he's now part of it,
a big, smelly pile of fresh shark shit"
Excellent poem! I thoroughly enjoyed the humour mixed in with those sharp shark teeth!

Hah, well, thank you very much, Kimbob, I am very happy you enjoyed reading it. I too saw Jaws in the theaters for the first time, and I was twelve. My father took me and me two brothers to see it (Mom refused to go), and when that shark attacked the little boy on the raft, all three of us boys sat Indian-style in our seats, refusing to allow our legs to dangle near the ground. I tried to get out of taking a bath for a solid month. Of course, that idea didn't fly, but I tried. It truly affected me, as well!

Ya, kinda' creepy, Mel, isn't it? I mean, do sharks even have tongues? I suppose they do, I've just never seen one (nor do I ever want to, YIKES!)...

Just so fearful of big water. Nearly drowned when I was 12, so that contributed to my feelings. Great tribute poem to your friend and I imagined he was happy and amused,,,,,Jim

Yeah, I am sure the near drowning experience put you off water for sure! It leaves me gasping in awe as I stare out over an ocean towards the horizon. It sure make a person fell small & insignificant in the grand scheme of things, that's for sure.

I really enjoy this rhyming quatrain, the profanity is apt for the situation as I think anyone would be thinking, or more likely screaming 'Oh fuck!' with a shark on there ass. Thanks very much, elchupakabra, that is exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for concerning this format. If it wasn't working, it certainly wasn't going to stick around in my repertoire for long. However, most people, with the exception of a few, of course, do seem to enjoy them, and the majority always rules!
