I love it, Beth. Yes, who indeed is doing the most learning? I can totally identify with that one. I only have one child, forty years old, in a happy marriage and with three kids, and I'm not sure I know who she really is.
But that's another story. I can see how you and Evan had produced three children so totally different. How I enjoy reading your story. I wish you and yours a happy New Year. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. I'm so glad you are continuing to enjoy these story. Even have they grow up sometimes they change so much we can't be sure we know them.

Adorable!! Delightful chapter--you nail each of their personality quirks--indeed ironic as to Christi being cheerful and mellow as a child--seems like she and Carol switched temperaments!

Yes, children don't come with a "How to booklet." And with most all of us it's considered a "learn as you go" kind of education. But most of us make it through the hard times and when we look back there sure were some happy times too. Thanks for sharing.

I had one just like Carol. Charlisa, we called her Charlie. She was our second daughter and cried all the time if she never got her way. But all in all, you and I have made it through it and so did the kids. Good one, Beth.

I must ask, Beth, why did her door have a lock on it? I would have taken it off before he was even there if that was her room. You did a great job describing the personalities of each child. I could envision each one. There were four siblings in my family, and Mother said we were scattered to the four winds.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

All the bedroom doors locked from in inside. The house was that way when we bought it. If you had a tool of straight metal like an icepick it was easy to get it. We could have changed the whole door knob but since we could get it pretty easily we never bothered. We couldn't lock her in but she slow us down. She found that out early.

Ah, you had such challenging child-raising years! I think every parent should be told "Your child will not be like you so don't expect anything!" Thanks for sharing about your children and the trials of parenting!

Thank you Helen. They do seem to go through a phase of not like you and maybe even hating you. Thankfully, it is usually temporary.

That's a lovely picture of your three sweet children, Beth. A good question indeed regarding parenting: Who is teaching whom? My three children were all born close together, yet their personalities while growing up were also different. Keeping up as parents is a real challenge. Thanks for sharing another piece of your experiences.
One little typ: "with the task of turning them into (a) functional beings."

You're welcome, Beth, and no worries about getting behind with responses. I can't believe how many postings are being made this week, but I guess it's because of the ratings. I doubt I'll ever catch up. lol

I think I latched onto that saying like you, each individual child doesn't come with a manual specific for that child. Rebecca, our first born, was seemingly sunny, but had a stubborn streak, when she went to kindy, she would play with the child no one else would, although popular herself. And she maintained that trait to this day, naturally compassionate, that can't be taught, she's like Mary in the Bible would have been like. Catherine, the second, on the other hand, was a different kettle of fish. Enough of that, I loved this story, agree with you, but I understand how God treasures the individual. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. I appreciate another fine review. Each child is unique and each journey is their own. We do the best we can and pray they will make the right decision and will be a part of our lives for eternity.

I absolutely loved this piece. I grew up the oldest of three girls, each two years apart. We were all different during childhood and as adults, and must have driven our parents crazy. Your story reminded me of those days.
I noted two nits you may want to consider.
1.We had never discussed having children and had to no feeling... (remove the word 'to')
2.we knew we could make babies and having another one because a number one priority. (having another one 'became' a number one priority.)
This is a delightful description of real life as a parent. I look forward to reading more.
I asked if she'd like to the ride the (remove the word 'the' ride)
