Absolutely did not see this coming. Magnificent. Amazing. Beautiful. Clever. Dangerous. Exciting.Fevered.Great. You carried us along in your special secret adventure. A brothers will be brothers will be brothers tale. You blew it out of the park. I told RicMyWorld that you and him were the two best writers in here. And if you don't read each other you should. Great Story. Karen

Thank you for this. Been following Ric for years. Absolute stunning story teller. Fan Terry Broxton and Jay Squires. Also Sandra Mutchell. You will learn so much from them. Thank you again for this. Gretchen

I already have terry and jay in my clutches, I have never heard of Sandra Mutchell. I will check her out. Is there a story of her's that sticks in your brain? I will check, Karen

Thank you for sharing this , you brought me back with your story when I was a kid and went to see the "Freak Shows" as they were then called. I will never forget the terror I felt.

Hi Gretchen,
This kind of story could turn cheesy, but you did a great job with it! I didn't expect the ending.
I enjoy unpredictable reads. Well done! :)
Love,
Sonali

I really, really like this--the ending was a huge surprise. However, that last line seems a bit flat. I have no other suggestions, but it's a bit anti-climactic. I still really enjoyed it, and enjoyed seeing your writing in a different light. Caroline

Excellent flash piece, Gretchen. Is this for the WD contest?
Only one thing, generally, I should point out. Make sure the voice is consistent for the characters. I kept having the feeling Harry was battling between being hickish and literary. I asked myself if one who says: "Women, they was faintin'," would also say, "I embellished some, left a part or two out, . . ."
The voice belongs to Harry. [I think this is unnecessary, Gretchen. Let the reader fill in the gaps. He learns who it is in the next line and all the clues were leading to it.
Good job, my friend. You're really getting into the vignettes, aren't you?

This is very good writing and quite suspenseful; however, the part that describes Harry's and Joe's entry into the tent could be a bit more descriptive to rev up the suspense bit more. It's an enjoyable read. I wish you luck in the contest.

I was under word count restraints. I didn't win, but it was a fun prompt to write. Thank you for the great review. Gretchen
