Reflections from the world where words are few
They show their face in new and powered ways.
The Hopi culture shows us something new
But which was old eons before our days

'Spider Grandmother.' A mystical reunion indeed. Cave paintings and creatures with insect like bodies, protruding skulls and large eyes. Have a feast. Well done.

Wow, friend, you are so good! This is an amazing 55-word entry - I had to read it a couple of times to figure out what was happening, and then I read your author's notes, which made it clear! Brilliant, Bev!

Hello to you, Bev! I enjoyed your 55-word story for the contest. It was indeed unusual as many I've read and I wish you lots of luck. After reading your notes, it was easier to understand what the Spider Grandmother is.
Smiles,
Karyn : )

Read this twice and after reading the author notes I understood what Spider Grandmother means. There's mystery and excitement in just 55 words. Well done! Good luck with the contest. Les

Thias is quite an unusal story. First paragraph is dynamite as it puts the reader smack dab in a different world. Contrast of black heart and rainbow-circled moon makes one suspend belief and crawl with the seeker toward the light.

Hallucinating on peyote? A well described incident where Lanza is left alone without food or water for 4 days in isolation in order to see visions and in doing so becomes a man in the Hopi cave or if I am remiss in another native American culture. Well scripted and presented.

With warm regards: (55 words)

Thanks for a very interesting perspective and generous review, Stephen. Basically, that is exactly what I tried to convey with the story. Though I don't think the Hopi tribe would use the peyote. Did you catch that the moon was a UFO? Oops, giving the story away. Take care, Bev

I like the Indian themes you have in your stories, and the nature-inspired names that they have for people and things. Such as Spider Grandmother. Almost give me the sense she's got her fingers into many pies.

I think you've got a story here. Lansa is starving, must do something. She cries out and is saved by the Spider Granny.

Cheers,
DW

Good luck with the contest.

Very interesting writing in only a few words. I especially like the phrases "night and day cleaved to one orbit" and "rainbow-circled moon". Thanks for writing.

I've heard the tale of Spiderwoman. They have an interesting tale of creation, but to say the sun created everything through Spiderwoman is not wrong, huh? What I mean is that without the sun we would all be dead. Great story.

Hi, JM. I am very fascinated by the idea of cave paintings, in some cases, being depictions of ancient astronauts visiting the earth. And, yes, I agree, the sun is central to most forms of worship whether it's spelled Sun or Son. Thanks for the generous review. Warm regards, Bev
