This is just great - such authentic dialogue that sounds just like a play by play call of an exciting game done by really great commentators :-) These are the kind of commentators who let people hear a game on the radio without feeling as if they're missing anything just because they can't see what is going on. I love their enthusiasm, their asides with opinions - what a fun read :-) Brooke

Thank you Bender. I'm a huge baseball fan and I'm working on the prologue to a book. I posted "First Pitch" a few weeks ago and decided to take that story into a book version. If you get the chance give it a read and let me know what your thoughts are. Appreciate you stopping by and welcome to the sight. John

Excellent version of a baseball game. I grew up as a Pittsburgh Pirates fan and they won a lot in those days. I never missed a game on tv or radio. And the announcers got soooo excited, just as you show it here. No other sport has that kind of energy in the announcing, I think.

Phyllis, thanks so much for stopping to read and review my story. I remember those days when Pittsburgh was a powerhouse, been a long time. But they are making strides... Thanks again, John

Typical win for the team, untypical story is a winner.

Vivid illustration of fine writing as the characters express their views. Fine explanations and drama throughout.

I always listened to the Yankee games on radio in late 40's, early 50's. Many of the greats played then with a great manager

Yes, liked his switching batting order, does anyone do that now? I do not follow sports much now.

And you my friend just might have an 'All Time Best'!!!!!!!!! I live in Cardinal land. As you know, I love sports. Your radio dialogue is perfect. I could just see the 'catch' and hear the crowd. Great write, Carolyn

The Pujols less Cardinals always seem to find a way to win and have good seasons. Yankees will need some of that magic this year. Your Cardinals are actually one of my favored NL teams, if I were to root for any... Thanks for reading and commenting Carolyn, I appreciate it. John

Wow! I felt as if I were listening to these two on the radio or on tv. Great use of dialogue, my friend. You do so well in capturing the moments leading up to the Yankees' win. Given how well this is written, I'd say you are a baseball fan, besides an excellent writer. I am from Sacramento, so the San Francisco Giants are the favored team here. I grew up in a house where my dad and brother were constantly listening to Giants' games. Now I'm married to a Giants fan. I enjoyed reading this, John. Good job!

Thanks Connie, so I guess baseball is a part of your life, maybe not by choice??
I rooted for the Giants as well as the 49'rs. I was a big Joe Montana fan back in the day...
Thanks ever so much for the 6 star reward. I truly appreciate it. Your comments work wonders as well !!! John

"You couldn't write a better script" - great line. A very appealing write! I love listening to baseball on the radio, though I'm not a Yankees fan. You really bring this story or memoir alive for me. I felt the excitement, and I have a tiny feeling you love baseball. Very well written sports story, so far I think they're your strength.

Val, thanks do much for reading and reviewing. I always appreciate reviewers feedback. As much as I love watching baseball, listening on the radio gives it a different view as you have to create it based on the announcers call, voice and emotion.
I'm working on expanding my "First Pitch" story into book form.
    Thanks again, john

this is very well written, jmdg, you did an excellent job writing this story about the call of the game where the yankees win. i enjoyed reading this one. i only like baseball in the world series. i'll take football all year. the first year we were married, my husband found me in the living room cheering for my team in the superbowl. he doesn't like to watch football because he says if he can't play it he doesn't want to watch it. i went to a football game with my cousin and she said never again. she said i blew her eardrum out with my screaming. i went out wedding dress shopping the next day with a hoarse throat

Thanks swj for reading and sharing some of your joys and memories. Sad to say I am a lifelong Jets fan!! When my kids were younger, we'd go to ours best friends home in NY State and go to an Army football game at Miche Stadium. Tailgating, brewskies, toss the football and all that good stuff. I enjoy football but baseballs my game.

Hi John! An all-dialogue write... Loved it! I have a feeling a lot of people watch the game just to hear these two commenting. It's really entertaining. The dialogue is perfect:-)

Hi John,

This was great. I could even hear the crowd murmuring and screaming in the background. You gained you six by having Ichiro catch the last fly ball. I notice you refer to him as Ichiro Suzuki. In Seattle he was Ichiro. Rarely was his last name ever mentioned. As I recall, the Yankees put an end to that when he was traded last summer. I like the authenticity, the banter, and the excitement. Now for opening day!

Ray

He's know here as Ichiro also, but Sterling's calls like that are always first and last. Thanks for the great review and generous rating. Those two are always entertaining to listen to. Suzyn rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but she's good at what she does. Thanks, John
