This piece really made me laugh (I am also a lawyer).
It made me remember a discussion with my colleagues when our boss (male) wanted to have a right to go to the court with a mohawk and some female colleagues were looking at him like at a fool.
Very good job with perfect wording and you delivered the story so well. I could see the outfits :D

I'm glad you found this piece amusing, as that was what I was going for.

These guys were so focused on their work that they could care less about fashion. I did exaggerate a bit on the outlandish combinations, but they really did put some strange outfits together.

Thanks for the read and your great review.

A funny, yet gentle poking of fun at people you obviously love. I love your writing and will be "checking you out" to peruse more. I suffer from the same fashion deficiency as your friends, but have learned to cope by simply asking my wife of 53 years, "Do these "go"? I have also learned the hard way that it saves time to ask this question before actually donning the items in question. :)

Your review and comments on my piece are very appreciated. I am so happy that you found it amusing.

You are right that I did and do love those Foundation attorneys very much. They were always good sports when it came to being ribbed about their lack of fashion sense.

A fashion treatise on the male legal eagle. How delightful. It must have been entertaining to see to say the least. But, you also write of them with fondness. Nice work.

I really adored these unique characters; they were very good attorneys and that was their primary focus, not fashion. They were also good sports about all the teasing they got from the women on staff.

I'm glad you found this piece entertaining, that was what I really wanted it to be about.

Thanks so much for your review.

This is a story that many can't relate to but the writer does a good job of making the reader feel welcome and not a stranger. The writer leads the reader were the reader needs to go and gives the reader a good view of what's going on. The transitioning is smooth. This story is well balanced and the writer gets the reader where the reader needs to go. Nice work.

Your story reminded me of the movie "My Cousin Vinny" where the judge demands that the lawyer played by Joe Pesci (spelling?) wear a proper suit to court. I don't know if you saw the movie but it was so funny. Anyway, he showed up in a suit that one could only say dramatic. I enjoyed your story very much. It shows that you really did enjoy yourself while working at this place.

I not only have seen My Cousin Vinny, but I own the DVD. I love that movie so much. In some ways it does sort of remind me of our attorneys at Legal Aid. They never got a lecture from a judge, but I am certain the judges noticed their lack of fashion sense.

However they did such a good job with their cases that how they dressed paled in comparison. I was quite proud to be a member of their team.

So glad you found the piece funny and entertaining, as that was my goal.

You have so many great lines in this piece that I would be copying and pasting most of the article to point out favorites. The following seems to be the one I'll remember, though.
" begging the question, when does such freedom cease to be freedom and become abuse? "
I absolutely loved this piece, not only the humor, but the fact that dedicated, caring people made justice and compassion their focus rather than being in style. Great job. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for your read and lovely review.

These were very unique people and I felt so privileged to be in their company and part of what they did on a daily basis. They honestly and truly cared about their work.

They were also extremely good sports about the fashion thing. Actually, they really didn't care if they rolled with the times or not when it came to clothes, they wore what they had and it was business as usual.

Marsia, You have a talent for describing something so that a reader can imagine it in the mind. Excellent. However, some describing goes a long way. It is humorous in so many areas, for instance: "a reputation as the place where terminal polyester and obnoxious plaids went to die." One example I want to compare, to the legal aid in Michigan, is "everyone knew when a male attorney from Legal Aid was in the courtroom." I used to work for an attorney in Michigan in 1985. All the attorneys in the office dressed like professional persons and the court appointed and Legal Aide attorneys did also. However the difference wasn't their appearance, it was the lack of concern for their clients on the part of the Legal Aide and Court appointed lawyers. These lawyers would suggest to the clients to plead guilty to get the case over with. That way the attorneys didn't have to do any paperwork and they still collected their money from the court. It used to be $350.00 for approximately 20 minutes work in the court room, back in 1985. Your story was well written. Carole

Legal Aid attorneys on the whole do have a reputation for not being 'real' attorneys and that is truly sad for all of those who do such stellar work on behalf of their clients. Our attorneys we fantastic and they put their hearts and souls into what they did for the community. Toby, our director, had tons of awards over the years for all of his humanitarian efforts over and above the Foundation's work.

They were a very unique group and I have never met any like them before or since.

I'm glad, above all, that you enjoyed the humor in this piece. It was my tribute to these crazy attorneys that could care less about making any sort of fashion statement. As it was satire, I did exaggerate quite a bit. They did tone things down for court, but they never looked very stylish or exactly coordinated at any give time.
