Ouch, I feel it.
I don't know if this is based on real life, but if it is, you can't beat yourself up over this. I love that I can feel the sorrow, but yet there's still a hopeful ending. Great job!

I was reading all of the ones in this contest, and I have to say that I realized that we wouldn't know sadnessness without first knowing happiness. We wouldn't appreciate happiness without sadness. While it isn't something to enjoy, it is the manure that makes us flowers grow. praying for you!

Every thing in our lives whether good or bad makes us who we are today. It is all mapped out for us. :)

I love the poem. I love the author notes. I felt that way with my first husband. The man was and still is a creep. But he now lives alone with himself. That is the best punishment I could think of.

This is a powerfully written poem of how love can be deceiving and how the one you love can put on an act for a while. I had that experience with my first wife who I went with for 4 years, but who became a different person after we were married. Your poem has a tight tempo and wonderful abab rhyming scheme. The cover picture, combined with the infused poetic phraseology creates a haunting, desperate realization. Glad you moved on.
