I hope that the pain, so evident in this piece, has eased somewhat. It is so difficult to see those we love so ill. That helpless feeling pours out from your words. I think this is a good use of the form and you have followed the structure well. It is interesting to see all the different styles. Thank you again for entering the contest.

It frightened me to see him there,
all huddled down, vulnerable.
If we can take him home I swear,
him, I'll cradle

Understand.. my dad died a few years ago in the hospital, was hard to watch.

Excellent.. blessings

This is so very touching. I know how this feels. My dad was the same way, and it's hard to see a strong man brought down by illness and age. You have my vote.

Great free verse. Brought back such vivid memories of my own father on his death bed, four years ago. Well, I'm reviewing all of these poems. I love the contest and love the form, and thank rosehill as well. That said, 8-8-8-4 so invites an iambic or anapestic meter. She has also specified NO author notes except to thank the artist for the art work and invite impressions of the form. You have accepted this well, including a rhyming poem in a free verse style without a specific meter and great enjambment, and only the required author notes. Best of luck in the contest. Hugs, Sue

Your poem describes the helpless feeling of seeing a loved one in a bad situation - in this case, being hospitalized. Your imagery is perfect and quite touching. It is a subject most of us can identify with. Best of luck in the contest.

This is a touching little verse with a wealth of emotion in just a few short lines. Your love and worry for your Dad really shines through. Hope he's on the road to recovery.

Such lovely sentiments Jaq
this bought home the nightmare I had with my Dad 8 years ago now, he looked exactly as per your photo. The drugs affected him and he kept telling me to turn the car around. I always wondered was there a message I missed.

Great poem and I think you will do well in the contest.

Kind Regards

Spike

It was so long ago and I think it was his confusion. That day was such a shock to us all. The man looked so healthy before he was rushed into hospital. But as they say life goes on.

    Kind Regards
